I was a regular at the Rochester location before I moved out here, and it was my second stop (Brandani's pizza for a Super Slice was the first) the first time I went back to visit.

    Phoenix has the best lagers.

Just Wren House and Arizona Wilderness alone, hoo boy: Picket Post, Big Spill, U9, Domain Pirate, Valley Beer, Oshiro, Wilderpils, Blanc and I'm sure there's more out there I can't recall off the top of my head.

I thought I would have liked Rabbit's Foot (Goldwater) more though. . . at least Hazing Arizona (although not a lager) is great label design/spoof.

I have to agree with others about Austin. I was there April 2021 for 3 days/nights. It’s an ok beer city, but I thought Jester King about 20min out of downtown was one of the great brewery visits I’ve had this far anywhere. Take that away, and it’s pretty ordinary craft scene in modern times IMO.

Agree with you. Was just there visiting family a bit over a week ago. Nice town... We enjoyed our time there, but the beer scene was nothing exceptional. Live Oak was the best place we visited, and I'll agree their hefe is world class. Other than that... we tried some nice beers, but nothing that would justify adding Austin to my top 5 list

Exactly. Not sure why this has to turn into a pissing contest. We all have opinions and reasons for why we picked our top 5. Be kind of boring if we all agreed on what those cities are.

Something I would point out. 20 or 30 years ago, this thread wouldn't have warranted much of a discussion. The number of great beer cities in the US was really pretty limited. Not any more. There are so many excellent breweries all over the country... it's completely understandable that there would be numerous candidates for best beer cities in this poll.

    Of course. Me too.

In fact, I believe that's what the OP requested.

A difference of opinion is understandable, but some of the posts in this thread seemed to suggest that some of the selection lists reflected a lack of cognitive capability. :sunglasses:

Which is just nuts, when obviously my particular list is the only one that's objective, accurate, and free of any sort of bias. ☺️

places i've been to in the last 12 years. don't get around much these days.

NE Kingdom. if i have to pick a town then Greensboro. Hill and Willey's fill all my needs.

Philadelphia and vicinity with a nod to my old hometown of Media.

Chicago. only there for a day and just did some beer shopping. stopped at 3F on the way in.

Norfolk, VA. got a friend there. always able to find something interesting.

Elkton, MD. a frequent stop now that i'm doing a weekly commute to Philly.

did a lot of travel to NW, San Diego and Colorado but unfortunately before i got into craft beer. now that i live outside DC i need to checkout more than just Churchkey.

I did not. It was recommended, but we just didn't have time for it. Hopefully next time.
