Love you added New Glarus. Really special experience at brewery and in town. Very good memories.

I've pondered this list multiple times. Where they are seems to me to be a big factor. History, geography and social climate all really matter to me.
No particular order but places with good beer, interesting history, and beautiful parts of the world. Portland, Philadelphia, Bend, Asheville, and Bamberg are all places that I really like, for many reasons.

That's a very good point about D.C. having a "flexible" set of so-called regulations. If a customer wants it you ship it. I always thought of setting up a ghost business to clear "hard to get" small quantity goods. Some people did just this, but it's risky.

In 1970 I visited the Carlsberg and Tuborg brewery on the same day with a great gaggle of international travelers. Copenhagen is s great city. That day was beyond fun!

In my state, Pittsburgh, Erie, Philly, Easton, Hanover.
    Favorite International Cities?
Munich, Dublin, Vlezenbeek, Düsseldorf, Plzen. Maybe?
Throughout the country, there's too many, plus I don't know where half of the beer I drink comes from.

Both are leading contenders on this thread. I've only been to the western one so I know where my allegiance lies. But the eastern version sounds like it's for a lot going for it.

I think folks east of the Mississippi generally mean Maine and folks west of the Mississippi are correct.

Considering Oregon's version is 10 times bigger I don't think there's any competition. Portland, OR definitely punches above it's weight beer wise, but I'm on record as voting for Oregon being the best beer state in the country so I might be biased.

I have had the pleasure of drinking extensively in both Portlands. They are both great beer cities.

    Cheers!

I will take your word for it and look forward to a lengthy visit to Maine at some point in the not too distant future. They have lobsters, I’ll give them that.

What's worse than having a lobster on your piano?

Having a crab on your organ!

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Try the veal. Tip your server.

I’m putting Asheville as my #1 because of how walkable it is from brewery to brewery. I wonder which others on your lists have similar vibes.

(My list is just places I’ve been… haven’t traveled enough to dig into many towns listed above.)

    1. Asheville
    2. Burlington
    3. Philly
    4. Hudson Valley (NY)
    5. Portland ME

Honorable mention to Seattle, which I haven’t visited since ‘98.

Portland, OR in certain neighborhoods is walkable (as regards several breweries you could visit). I enjoyed the fact that you could just go into any random (i.e., I had no prior knowledge of them) brewery and you would get good, tasty beer.

    Cheers!

P.S. I do enjoy walking from brewery to brewery in the South Slope neighborhood in Asheville.

Went for the first time this summer. The views from the breweries (and wineries) that are on the lakes are jaw-dropping. I don’t know that there’s another city/region with as many breweries in beautiful surroundings.
