Has anyone tried Mobius Strip from Cerebral? They describe it as a foeder cold IPA which is intriguing to me, given how good their foeder lagers are. But if it just tastes like any other NEIPA I'm not super interested. Thanks.

While they aren't necessarily among CO's best, I've been surprisingly happy with the IPA's coming out of my local spot, Six Capital. For a new brewery that doesn't really specialize in a particular style, they've nailed old school, hazy, and bright/west-coast versions. Juice Factor is up there with some of the better hazy options in Denver. I started going there because they were convenient (and the food is bomb), but the beer is worth going for, too.

More Dodge Less RAM is back on tap at Comrade.

Also pouring is Outstanding Achievements In the Field of Excellence A Collaboration India Pale Ale with Cannonball Creek and La Cumbre Brewing. Going to be a big batch brewed down in ABQ with draft and cans coming in early October. Cheers!

Apropos of nothing... But what percentage of new beer on the shelves is either a hazy IPA or a fruited beer of some sort? It's gotta be upward of 50% at this point. Crazy.

Our shelves are almost entirely filled will hazy IPA after hazy IPA and kettle sours of all sorts. I often wonder who is actually buying most of it. Then again, it might also explain why so much of the beer on our shelves is old AF. I'm not sure anyone IS buying it. Especially considering what most of it costs. My motivation to try a 4-pack of haze cans (using the same 3 hops as everyone else) that costs $18 is pretty damned low.

Seems that some hazies are doing just fine.

I have no doubt some hazy IPA's (bright ones, too) are selling well. I just question if the other 75% of the ones on the shelf are. Are people really buying [insert random suburban Denver brewery not known for IPA]'s haze cans for $18? If they are...are they buying it more than once or just moving on to the next one? At the stores I frequent, there is a boatload of old stock taking up space and pushing out stuff I'd like to buy. Stores know more or less what's hot right now, but I question how top-heavy those sales figures are. Everyone might have a smartphone, but that doesn't mean Best Buy dedicates space to selling the latest offerings from Micromax, HPL, and Xolo. People only actually care about 3-4 brands.

"Stacked Universe" by Our Mutual Friend Brewing is probably the best Coloradan IPA I've tried so far. I drank this and took this picture back in July and haven't been able to find it since. Maybe it's rotational or something. It's totally an old-school WCIPA, super crisp malts, just a touch of sweetness, big citrus profile, piney and dank. It's everything you could want in an West Coast IPA.

Comrade is tapping More Dodge Less RAM this Friday October 28. We brewed it again after winning a second gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival a few weeks ago

Awesome, thanks! I've been wanting to try that since Darwin Goh of Darwin's Beer Reviews spoke extremely highly of it.

This! Seems to be an explosion of new breweries in Colorado..a good thing? But when they all jump on the haze train and pump up the price. Is it really a good thing? Reading reviews this is a thing in Colorado. never got to that stage in Oregon. Though many try to brew hazys they have to be well known (except Great Notion) from before to sell beer in quantity.

I think most of our new breweries are putting out good beers and serving lots of different neighborhoods. That's definitely a positive. Where they lose me is when they start packaging. It's neat that I can get a pretty damn good hazy IPA within walking distance of my house. Yet is anyone 40 miles north of me planning on buying that random hazy IPA from Aurora at their local liquor store? If they do on a whim, will they buy it more than once? What about the dozens of other ones or the ones in their neighborhood? It just doesn't make any sense for the breweries or the stores. It's 2022, not 2005. You aren't just competing with Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, and Fat Tire anymore.

Circling back to the topic at hand - the Comrade/Cannonball/La Cumbre IPA "Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Excellence" is absolutely killer. It's the best new hoppy beer I've had in a long time. At least for my tastes. Plus, classic Simpsons references are never a bad thing.

River North Brewery's "Colorado IPA" was surprisingly delicious. It's like a perfect marriage of IPAs circa seven or eight years ago, and modern IPAs. Unfiltered and slightly hazy, bright golden pale malts, fruit-forward hop profile, clean and dry bitter finish. I crushed the six pack of it.

Oskar Blues has a new IPA called "Cosmic Mutant" that might be the best widespread hazy IPA I've ever had. It's not as good as having Juicy Bits in Greeley that was brewed yesterday and such, but it's available nationwide. I find that most haze cans from large breweries can't fully capture what makes the best examples great...but this one does. With Epic's Lupulin Burst seemingly gone forever, I think it's the best hazy with any level of distro around.
