What's your take on the 12'? I had one last night and thought it was really odd. Never had a beer taste anything approaching that beer

It's a nice beer, not sure what 'odd' flavors you were experiencing. I get a light bodied, 'festive' spice like cinnamon and cardamon with a sort of fruity plum finish? I have to admit, I actually prefer the aged versions I've had over fresh but it's still an excellent winter ale in my opinion.

A fresh 2012 just for shits and giggles. I guess this is as good a place as any to ask this question. For anyone who has had the 2012, do you notice anything different in comparison to other years? I am trying to decide if I am in a weird funk and my sense of taste is off today or my memory of this beer is way off.

It's less sweet than the 2011. I liked it a lot better, the 2011 was just a sugar bomb.

I just had this (not my picture):

2009 vintage for just under $5 at my local pub that just re-opened at another location after burning down earlier this year. So close to perfection it's actually scary.

My memory could be off but this years tastes more like a really boozy and fruity belgian strong ale instead of a stout. I am curious if anyone has done a side by side or vertical tasting lately. It kinda reminds me of what happen to Struise and their Black Albert... ya know, where the recipe mutated away from a roasty imperial stout and into more of a fruity belgian dark ale. It is similar to that only on a significantly higher alcohol scale.

Just my opinion, wasn't really expecting that.

I am currently enjoying Yakima Glory by Victory a Nov. - Dec. seasonal. Well balanced at 8.7 ABV, I am savoring every sip for I will have to wait a long time until it graces my fridge again. It celebrates the late summer Yakima Valley hop harvest. It must smell really good there during the harvest...... ROAD TRIP!

Try and find another one. So you can drink one now and age the other.
