I wasn't sure where to put this so I started a thread...

My girl got a little tipsy with a friend at the Three Floyds brewpub on Sunday night...and she ended up picking up a bottle of the Murda'd Out Stout...even though we had both agreed that it was just too much to spend...so I guess we'll be trying that soonish...she's flying out to Maine in a couple of days...here's hoping she throws it in her suitcase...anybody else aside from the single reviewer tried this stuff? Thoughts?

I would love to try it, but not for $50 a bottle.

A lot of people are angry about the price.

But a barrel aged dark lord on DL day is 50$

This beer is a blend of 4 already crazy expensive beers. Brought to one place. Aged separately in bourbon barrels. Then blended after 14 months.

Not to mention it is being sold by 3F, who believe anything they put into a barrel is worth its weight in gold.

It's being sold by FFF not 3F . All of your points are well-taken. I'm not "angry" about the price. I'm just not going out of my way to spend $50 on it. There are plenty of BA stouts that are much cheaper and probably just as good if not better...and I admit I can be a FFF fanboy at times.

If they happen to still have it when I stop at the brewpub, I'll think about it. However, I'm not going out of my way and might not even buy one if it's still available.

Im a 3F fanboy as well. I would throw down the money but it's not worth a drive for me either. I also have never had any of their stuff put into barrels so I am also hesitant to spend that kind of cash. This seems like the one to spend that kind of money on though.

I see this as being a positive effect of the price. If you decide it's worth it to you, then you can probably pick one up the next time you happen to stop there. As opposed to if it were $20 and your only chance to get one was to skip work or something and show up in a 1 hour window before they sold out, many to be used as trade bait or whatever.

My guess is that the all but complete demise of the once rampant eBay aftermarket is the only reason this didn't sell out within a day of each release. Sure, Craigslist is there, but it's way more sketchy than eBay, which is sketchy enough, so people don't feel as safe making a purchase. Also...no auctions on Craigslist...just stupid ridiculous prices.

Just had a deconstructed tasting last Saturday night.

We all had a good time but no one was blown away by any of those beers. We actually started the night off with a Parabola and I believe every person preferred that to even Murda'd which was hands down the best of the bunch in the picture above (but no way could I ever justify the cost...wasn't that good).

BTW, someone else also brought a BGBrunch to the tasting so mine wasn't consumed, send me a message if you still need one.

Their bombers are pricey il admit. However their 6 pack beers are a bargain. 35$ case of zombie dust... that's 1.50$ for a bottle. 1.50$ for a bottle of beeradvocate's #13 beer.

Seeing a behemoth on the shelf for 16.50$ next to a six pack of alpha king for 12$ is mind boggling. Hope you enjoy your Murda'd, wish I could have got one.

Seriously, you aren't missing much. If you get a chance to try a taste at a bottle share you'll probably enjoy it just fine, but I can't imagine the majority of people who pay the $50 aren't going to wish they had 3 other $15ish bottles.

Hell, 8+ bottles of BCBS...seriously...spend your $50 there.

EDIT: I guess the thrill of the chase and getting something extra rare really does it for some people but even FFF makes better $50 bottles.

As far as I look at it beer is priceless and meant to be consumed. with that said if you can afford it a mere small price to pay for something you can't get anywhere else. Although I will have to say that if I drop $50 on a bottle it better be damn good as there are lots of great bottle priced in the $20 range and you could get 2 or so of those and get more value than I would definitely be disappointed.
