    1) BlackStack Final Fantasy 3 (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with El Dorado, Talus, Phantasm for flavors of grapefruit citrus, tropical pineapple, vinous grape, and mango flavors.
    versus
BlackStack Side Hustle (8.4% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Idaho 7, Citra Cryo, El Dorado Cryo & Azacca Cryo for flavors of tropical pineapple, sweet navel orange, some melon and faint flower. Heavy, juicy, sweet. (Correctly matched the two blind)

    Winner:
    1) BlackStack Final Fantasy 3:
No canning date as usual, so can't remember how old Side Hustle is but probably canned in January. Had been one of my favorites. Now it shows a little age and drinks a too sweet as the hop flavors fade. Sweet grape, pineapple, berry flavors. Final Fantasy drinks cleaner and has that vinous phantasm flavor. Not always my favorite flavor, but keeps this one dryer and not overly sweet. Side Hustle was probably better fresh, whenever that was.

Crazy day. Now at the pub for the Shilling Beer tap takeover, drinking Alexandr a Czech style pilsner:

    The Drowned Lands -- Frenweh
    Rauchbier
ABV: 5.5%; pouring temperature: 53.6 ℉; canning info:
Source: local purchase (Coaltrain Fine Wine, Craft Beer & Spirits)
Auxiliary vice: CAO -- BX3 Toro

    3.54/5 rDev -6.1%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

Vibrant and clear golden body; dense and lively carbonation; thick white head initially; head size reduces to a fair size rather quickly, sudsy. Malt sweet nose; faint suggestion of phenol smoke snaking through the caramel sweetness; fruity esters. Medium body; smooth with a touch of stickiness on the palate.

A rather disappointing rauchbier, especially with the taste. I don't expect most rauchbiers to come across like the famous Bamberg beers but at least there should be a more smoke character the aroma and taste. Not a bad beer for, say, an amber lager, but the lackluster smokey presence one might hope for is very, very tamed.

[IMG] Isle Of Pine Barleywine. This is the place and beer that turned my into the beer geek I am today. 20 years ago it was 12% served in an ice cream Sunday glass. You were only allowed 3 and you couldn’t get a growler to go. Now it is 10.8% and in a 16 oz glass. Cheers all.

    1) North Coast Brewing Old Rasputin (9.0%): A Russian Imperial Stout from California with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, earth black malt, light cream. Dry and roasted coffee on the end.
    versus
    2) Stone Imperial Stout (10.6%): A Russian Imperial Stout from California with flavors of dark chocolate, dark fruit, dark coffee, with a lingering hoppy and bitter pine note. Heavy, but bitter. (Correctly matched the two blind)

    Winner:
    1) North Coast Old Rasputin:
The great Russian Imperial Stout Battle as this final winter storm approaches. Stone has a great one . Dark chocolate. Roast, with a classic Stone bitterness that really fits nicely and keeps it somewhat dry and clean. One of my favorite RIS. There's a reason Old Rasputin is the greatest though. Old Rasputin has the bittersweet chocolate balanced by a light coffee and cream. Authentic Eastern hemisphere malt flavors. If Old Raspy didn't exist, I'd surly pick Stone as my favorite RIS. But as it stands, the gods have blessed us with Old Raspy, the perfect comfort for snow days like today.

Enjoying a 3 Floyds BA Behemoth, very nice beer. Could possibly improve with resting for a year or so to let the hops and barrel meld together.
    Cheers!

Darker in color and not as dry in the finish as the Alexandr; I still like! Cheers!
