Sort of a mess of Beer Battles today BeerAdvocates. Two were drain pours. Replaced both with two new beers for the Vienna Lager and EQ NEIPA Battles as below. Ottakringer was the best Vienna, but Balanced Growth wasn't near enough to beat out Fluctuation.


Blackstack What’s The Beef? (5.1%): A Vienna Lager from Minnesota with flavors of brown bread, faint caramel. Dry and clean.
versus
Ottakringer (5.3%): A Vienna lager from Germany with flavors of brown bread, earthy Munich malt. Clean. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

Winner:
2) Ottakringer: Vienna Lager Battle. Fixing the first battle and should have done these two from the start. BlackStack is slightly sweeter, but Ottakringer has more flavor and authentic German flavors.


1) Equilibrium Balanced Growth (6.5% Canned 10/17/23): A NEIPA from NY with Idaho 7 whirlpool, and a HBC586 and Motueka for flavors of grapefruit, passionfruit, guava, and lemon zest. Clean.
versus
2) Equilibrium Fluctuation (8.1% canned 8/27/23): A NEIPA from NY with flavors of bright tropical notes of passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and lychee. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
2) EQ Fluctuation: Balanced Growth which is a lighter IPA but fresh. Nice lemon, guava, passionfruit flaovrs. Clean, dry, and drinkable. Very good and enjoyable, but no match against some of their greatness as in Fluctuation.

• @defunksta - Your various battles today remind me of the AWA Battle Royales back in the day.
• @JamFuel & @LarryV - Yes, love the song and the 1975 Supersonic TV Show He Ain't Heavy performance as well. When Pete Wingfield wasn't with them on tours, their bassist Bernie Calvert shifted to piano and their lead guitarist Tony Hicks played bass on this song. Elton John was paid 12 pounds to cover piano for their OG recording session in the month I was born (June 1969) after Graham Nash left for California.
• Love that you get Half Acre Orin out in Colorado @beergoot ! @eppCOS is more in tune with Half Acre, but I was glad to see them bring Orin to FOBAB this year. Big Hugs, Orin and Original Reaper were my jams when I was introduced to their barrel aged program.

After finishing Marlon James' brilliant, A Brief History of Seven Killings...I need to spin some Bob Marley. Basically incorporating many of the themes from their ultra political album Burning, and is ultra violent and vulgar. Martin Scorsesse might actually tone some of it down if he made it into a movie ha (this would be right up his ally if he wanted to).

Anyway, the last of my Sierra Nevada Torpedo...for now. Bob Marley and the Wailers spinning.
