For those of you in the Beaverton area, The Basics Market out on Farmington and about 176th is going out of business (not too surprising since it was always dead). Beer is 25% off and there is still an okay selection. A lot of six packs, some 16oz singles, and a few BA bottles. (Check dates on anything hoppy!)

Should be seeing younger in another couple weeks as well. The RR website references a February distribution release, but usually the release is fairly early in the month.

I wonder if a certain tap room in the City of Subdued Excitement will see it?

Have a glass of the big chick at Roscoe's today. The aroma profile isn't as pungent as I would have expected, but on the palate it's flat out delicious. The abv is entirely too well hidden for a beer of this size. You can tell it's up there, but the beer doesn't come across as boozy.

In my limited experience, it's incredibly difficult for a brewery to make a DIPA/TIPA with this high an abv. that doesn't taste hot or boozy.

Considering how much RR product they move, it would be VERY surprising if they don't. Assuming the owner decides he wants to get a keg. ☺️

I asked a few days ago, and Ron said he wasn't sure, but would like to get it. I remain optimistic.

Noticed online Roscoe’s has a Pliny variant in bottles. Pliny for President, triple dry hopped. Wondering if anyone’s tried it or seen it elsewhere?

As luck would have it, I'm here now (at Roscoe's). They do indeed have bottles of 2024 Pliny for president, something I've never seen before here in PDX. Same size bottles as BP and PtE, and same price ($7).

Yes I've tried it, but only down in Santa Rosa. It's really good... a somewhat hoppier version of regular PtE. Given a choice between it and PtE, I would always get the PfP. As long as it was the same price. I've never seen it up here in PDX before. (Just realized I already said that. Mea culpa.)

It's on (or at least was) at Elizabeth Station here in Bham a few days ago.

Did you try it Terry? If so, what did you think?

BTW. Was told kegs of younger should start showing up in here in the PNW in roughly two weeks.

Had it 4 years ago, @NWer brought me a can. I enjoyed it. Didn't feel the need to run over to ES to get it this time.

This year's Pliny for President and is hitting distribution for the first time. It is a different base beer clocking in at 7% ABV for an IPA. The last one was DDH Pliny the Elder at 8%.

Thanks for the input. Missed out on the DDH Pliny as well, but I know it was on tap around town not long ago. Roscoe’s is just so far for me now. Hoping to find some bottles on the west side. Might check the Beaverton John’s.

Just noticed that. So apparently it's a completely different beer. Have only ever had the DDH 8% version.

Picked up a bottle at Roscoe's, so I can see what it tastes like.

I had it on draft here in Salem last week. It's good, but don't expect a dry hopped version of regular Pliny. As stated above, it's a different beer and 7% vs. PtE's 8%.

I felt it had a dusty quality to it, for lack of a better term. Otherwise, it's a pretty straight forward West Coast IPA. Regular old Pliny is far better than both Pliny for Prez and DDH Pliny, IMO.

I also got a bottle but haven't tried it yet. I don't know how the bottled version would be appreciably better than draft, but there's only one way to find out.

I still wouldn't try to dissuade anyone from trying it.

They were out at Roscoe's and a few other spots when I went online tap looking. Apex had it for $6 but the I saw the fine print: 6oz pour. So I headed to Loyal Legion which had 12oz for $6.75 plus an unexpected discount for happy hour. I had one and I concur about the ease of drinkability.

Looking forward, maybe somewhat worriedly, to more of the TIPA season!

For those interested, it's currently on Tap at Arch Bridge as well.

As for Apex, it is what it is. They pride themselves on their over the top high prices.
