Good afternoon , a beautiful 77 degree day . Drinking a Pizza Port Backyard Explorer ,CO 02/26. Very tasty and $14.99 a 6PK of pounders .

 

Drekker Gorp Be With You Trail Mix Sour, 6.5% ABV. Yes, they did. Nothing like trail mix though. Pours thick and opaque red with a one-finger dark-pink head that left puree residue. Aroma is 100% peanut-butter-cup, with strong chocolate and peanut butter. Taste is tart cranberry and raspberry throwing shade on the other ingredients, slightly sweet, moderately tart, with the plum doing its job to take the sour edge off a bit, and add raisin taste. Excellent smooth and creamy mouthfeel, overall excellent mostly owing to the aroma.

My health has (hopefully permanently) improved recently so I've been able to tackle my backlog of new beers to review, then can chip away at my cellar. After a couple of weeks of reviewing mostly 13-15% octane BA stouts and barleywines, I'm taking a bit of a break with this one.

 

1) Phase Three DDH Perpetual Sounds (7.7% canned 1/19/24): A DDH NEIPA from Chicago with Mosaic and Amarillo for flavors of fruity blueberry tea, peachy grapefruit.
versus
2) Definitive Brewing Float (8.5% canned 1/5/24): A NEIPA from Maine with Citra, Simcoe, & Loral with flavors of lemon citrus and tropical hibiscus. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
1) Phase Three DDH Perpetual Sounds: NEIPA Battle. First is Phase Three so you know it's going to be good. Perpetual Sounds has great flavors of tropical orange from the Amarillo and blueberries from the Mosaic. Smooth and complex.
Next is Definitive Brewing. Nice Citra and Simcoe with the addition of Loral to give it a bit of a sweet but floral and piney note. Big but nice floral notes to clean the palate.
Giving a slight win to Phase Three for the flavor complexity, but both are very enjoyable.

 

Foreign Local/Narrow Gauge Apathy is a Cold Body APA (Citra, Galaxy, Riwaka). A dry, soft, earthy, fruity, and decently bitter NE APA. Getting passionfruit, yellow grapefruit flesh and zest, orange peel, yuzu, floral, earthiness, pine resin. Easy to drink. Great stuff.

 

Haven't had that one in forever. Don't think they distribute it out my way anymore. Always really enjoyed it, especially for a session IPA. Cheers man!

Then, Yellow Rose in the glass with a huge plate of mussels. Everything about this is great...

 

Sip of Sunshine post dinner beer .. Scotch Bonnets anyone? These will be making it into some future jerk dishes for sure!

Chocolate milk stout and cookies
