I say just have several IPAs in the lineup both year round and seasonal...if anyone can do it, Lagunitas can.

    nc41-
I wanna tell you in a friendly way that saying anyone else's beer is a a clone of 'some-other-brewers-beer' might be an easy shorthand for conversation and I do read that sort of unsophisticated commentary all the time and even though you may have meant it as a compliment, it is also demeaning and sorta insulting. I know Vinnie and I know Pliny, and Sucks is only similar in that they are both beer. Sorry for the buzz kill....

Local beer distributor just tapped a keg of Sucks for the growler station. $11.99 for a 64oz. Town over has Brown Shugga on their station. Also $11.99 for a 64 oz. Gonna be a Lagunitas weekend for the wild cards!!!!!!!!!!

If you like Maximus, what do you think of Ale Asylum Satisfaction Jackson? It has a big malt backbone which seems to keep the score low, as noted in many comments.

I thought it was great when I had it. However at almost $14/6 I tend to grab Maximus at around 9.... Other then that they are both fine beers in my book.

I agree that it is expensive, but good.

No buzz kill here. Pliny is Pliny, Sucks is Sucks. Both are fantastic, and for anyone to just casually claim that any one fabulous beer is a "clone" of a different but equally fabulous beer is worthless and amateur hour in my opinion. Give people a BA name and avatar pic and they will say all kinds of crazy shit. Cheers, and CANNOT wait until I have a case or 3 of Sucks in my possession here in the DC/MD/VA area!

    Agreed!

I readily admit that I'm not an IPA guy, but over the past couple weeks I have been checking out different IPAs in the hopes of "coming around."

As of right now, Sucks and Pliny are my go-tos. Both absolutely delicious and unique in their own right. If you can't taste the difference and appreciate them for what they bring, then I think you need to keep studying. Other IPAs just didn't move me as much as those two.

As someone who splits his summers between the beach on Cape Cod and the track in Saratoga, I can assure you that a suitcase of Sucks cans would be a weekly purchase all July and August. Have done similar with Harpoon IPA, Avery IPA, and Dale's Pale Ale in the past. A 32 oz. glass mini-growler would be a novelty purchased only when meeting up with friends at someone's house.

Well, if you plug the O.G. (1.085) and ABV (7.85%) into an ABV calculator, you come up with a finishing gravity near 1.026. That sure as hell isn't a Pliny clone, unless you're a really shitty brewer. I doubt Russian River's ever done a beer that finished with such a high gravity. And yet, this beer kicks ass. Go figure.

Good to know it's going to be there when I feel like a good DIPA.
