Having a Juice Stand while making some meatballs and sauce for dinner. Aroma is very enticing to say the least.

Happy Tuesday BAs! Got the lawn mowed and garden watered, so I'm cooling down with a Tennent's Lager. It's nothing to write home about, but I could've done worse. Cheers!

    16 ounce can packaged 05/24/24.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 7/8 inch white head over a very hazy golden body with lacing.

Nose of tropical fruit and sweet citrus.

Taste mirrors nose somewhat with tangerine and tropical fruit flavors giving way to pineapple from middle to finish.

Very nice near full mouthfeel with nice carbonation.

Overall, this is quite delicious and would have again and recommend.

    Cheers!

    1) Drekker Boil Boil 'em Mash 'em Stick 'em In A Stew (6.6% canned 6/18/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Nelson Sauvin, Nelson Cryo, Riwaka, and Motueka with flavors of grapefruit, dry grape, and some dank pine notes.
    versus
    2) BlackStack Lady Luck (7.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Nectaron and Superdelic for flavors of blood orange, tropical pineapple, grape, stonefruit, and mango. Sweet. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner: BlackStack Lady Luck
Drekker vs. BlackStack New-Zealand NEIPA Battle. First is Drekker. Nelson, Riwaka, Motueka. Expecting some interesting flavors here. Lots of grapefruit, grapes, some dank pine. Drinks clean and dry.
Next is Lady Luck from BlackStack. Nectaron and Superdelic. Has a lot of tropical orange and pineapple notes. It's juicy and somewhat sweet.
I like the flavors of both here, but the Drekker ones are slightly more muted than BlackStack.
For all these unfavorable beer sub-styles going around, I have to say that I am enjoying these New-Zealand hops. I like them better when they are in addition to some of the more standard Citra and Mosaic, but they sure add a nice touch to IPAs.

...patiently waiting on UPS, following the delivery truck on the map...I anticipate good things shortly...in the meantime:

...my niece Emmy has released an official music video...not bad for a young woman...gave her my grandfather's Gibson F2 mandolin a while back (I haven't played in decades) and got it restored in Nashville...she plays mandolin, guitar, keyboards, but her true instrument is her voice...her scraggly mutt and long-time boyfriend are also in the video...

Good afternoon, BAs! I took a trip to a very well known establishment around here that I haven't actually visited in years. It's the first place I bought Utopias, IIRC. Anyway, while they had some fresh beer, they may well have had some bottles lying around from the last time I visited.

For some beers, I'm willing to roll the dice on some age. 2020 KBS? Absolutely! (Hopefully the storage conditions didn't kill it.) A 750ml of Lizard of Koz ... under $18? Heck, yeah!

And a four pack of Velvet Rush three weeks away from celebrating its third birthday? And not found in their system, so they rang me up $11 for it?

    You have your answer.

Been missing the WBAYDN forum for the last several weeks with our move. The relocation and upgrade is sooooo much worth it and am glad to be back!
Enjoyed a lovely coffee stout from Bombastic with round 1, looking @muchloveforhops3 , thanks Doug!
Enjoying a local with round 2, Dales PA out of Brevard in Transylvania County, about 20 miles from where we live nowadays.
    Cheers!

    Oh my, that was quick.

The good: man, the coffee and bourbon have held up impressively on the nose. Very powerful!

The (really, really) bad: my first sip, I got something solid in there. And I don't mean like a chunk of particulate that has congealed over the years; I mean like a piece of wood.

I'm a texture eater. This is an all back full situation requiring spitting up my beer (mostly, but not entirely, back into the glass), and that's the only thing that stopped an all back emergency situation (puking).

Again: texture eater. I couldn't go back to it after that, mentally, and I had to fight off several rounds of gagging.

So I drain poured it, but through a sieve, so I can at least see what I was dealing with. (I just realized I should have taken a picture.) I'm not sure, but it wasn't just the additives out of solution and congealed. There was just one piece - the piece that, naturally, I immediately found. It looked like a seed, and had the texture of wood.

So ... I'm about to be back with my actual first beer of the day really soon, because now I need something completely different.

Hop Butcher Soapboxer (6.0% canned 4/22/24): A NEPA from Chicago with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, & Nelson for flavors of grapefruit, melon, stonefruit, and mango.

Keeping on the New Zealand hop train with another visit at this Hop Butcher Pale Ale. Strong and more traditional Mosaic and Simcoe upfront here. Lots of that resinous and tropical orange, apricot, and bluberries. Also some grape from the Nelson too. Great flavors. Not quite as impressive as their IPAs, but the flavors here are complex.

    Something completely different:

From a beer almost three years old and surprising, to a beer that is two months old and incredibly reliable. And tasted and validated before hitting "Post Reply."
