Tuborg (Turkiye) Gold washes down kabab really nicely.,.,. Cheeeeers!



So.,. there’s only 2 options for beer here., Efes and Tuborg. With the country 95% Islam non-drinkers, thankfully both brews are decent. Efes has the edge, IMO, because of the firm malt taste that compliments both seafood and traditional dishes.
There is a craft brewery somewhere in Istanbul, but I’m not gonna chase it.

Got so much history here. My mind is totally blown. The traditional music is incredible. The people are warm and welcoming. I crossed the bridge to the Asian side of Istanbul. Touched the Black Sea. Walked inside a 1500 year old cistern. Stood in front of a 3500 year old obelisk that came from the temple of Karnak in Egypt. Toured the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.
Just wow.,.

 

Happy Tuesday BAs! Relaxing on the porch, sipping on a Saison Dupont. It's the perfect cure for yet another hot, sweaty midsummer afternoon. Cheers!

 

1) Weihenstephaner Helles (4.8%): A German Helles introduced in 2020 for refined flavors of yeast, barley malts and a crisp and clean finish.
versus
2) Augustiner-Bräu Lagerbier Hell (5.2%): A German Helles with flavors of pale and earthy Munich malts. Yeast. Smooth. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner: Weihenstephaner Helles
German Helles Battle. First is Weihenstephaner, the #5 ranked Helles on BeerAdvocate. A newer and lighter version of their Original Premium. Soft, smooth, and bready. This is excellent.
Next is Augustiner, the #4 ranked helles on BeerAdvocate. Similar, but slightly less refined and smooth. Very good as well.
Weihenstephaner is the clear winner here and I really enjoy their Helles lager.

Another productive day BAs…walked 4.3 miles this morning through a different neighborhood, then took my kid brother uptown to visit a pal who owns a men’s clothing store (I tried on some suits) then hit the best brewery in Charleston for a couple of beers…home now, Brian is taking a nap, I’m on the porch drinking a Zombie Dust:



A very pleasant 82° with an occasional breeze, partly sunny with lots of puffy white clouds. My kinda day to sit on the glider and drink beer. Cheers y’all!

 

Love finding fresh Jai Alai up here. This is my jam.

 

Enjoying more of the bounty from the beer festival at Eighth State Saturday, this being a collaboration from multiple regional brewers - Beast of the Southeast. This is a bit of a nod at the King of Beers but much smokier and made with wheat malt. Pairing this with some Steely Dan.

Tropical rainy today . started off with a rainbow /storms , then mid morning sunshine and clouds built once again, loved the formations, drinking a Jai-Alai on the balcony now.

 

Half Acre Pony Pils. I always pass this one up as it's a year round offering, but my brother left me a few cans and I am really liking it. Just a good old German Pils built for massive drinkability.

 

This beer is not good. But the can is, so that’s all that matters, right?

Dad Bod from Hop Culture. Tastes, smells and looks eerily similar to the Captain Lawrence Citra Dreams I bought a week or so ago. Both of them say “NEIPA” or “Hazy” on the can, but go into that “not really” category that so many shelf beers fall into (they tend to look like a slightly hazy saison). They hop on the trendy style, but do it very poorly (imo) and seemingly only to make a sale to the unsuspecting jabroni (me).
