Fresh Hop 2024

FH Ripe is available for the taking

 

Off work, eating a late night dinner of grocery store lumpia and washing them down with what, thus far, is the only Spokane FH beer available on draught or in packaged form:


Pale ale brewed with fresh Centennial hops, it's in the good, but not great category.

 

FH Wanderlust w/ Cascade is in cans and possibly on tap at MKE today, will definitely be on tap tomorrow.

 

MKE = Milwaukie?

Also: I've been meaning to mention that I think it's great that Breakside switches the fresh hops every year. (e.g., last year's FH Wanderjack was made with fresh Strata).

 

I dunno. My palate and memory are infallible, and so I quite enjoy comparing beers across the years and try to discern where the difference is driven by the hop crop vs the batch of liquid nitrogen they use to access those lupulin glands.

had the Hetty Alice FH IPA last night, the name escapes me. was good, but nothing mind blowing.

also saw a B15 FH IPA in the store (not FH Sticky hands), and passed it up due to reasons that have already been explained in this thread

I always enjoy FG's freshies, so I will absolutely be trying both, even though Strata is not my favorite hop and a FH Mexican Lager seems like it might be a stretch.

 

Was it Static Shatter with Strata? I had one last night and was impressed. Punchy with a bit of passionfruit / mango in there. Very clean.

 

Fresh IPA has been good again after a couple sub-par years, so I'm looking forward to that

I did give the FH Mexican lager some side eye, but I suppose a beer like that really wouldn't get in the way of the fresh hops. I'd try it. Last year I had a fresh hop rice lager from Fracture that was surprisingly good.

 

For anyone wondering when would be a good time to come to Portland to experience fresh hop season via tap or in cans, the answer is now. Immediately. This is the weekend.

Have to say this is my favorite FH this year just ahead of Breakside Fresh Hop Pilsner.

Had 3 pints of this one. I have no idea what an Italian PIlsner is but this sure is impressive

 

Thr Gigantic FH Centennial, while no Wanderjack, is an excellent old school IPA with lovely fresh Centennial character

 

I'll echo what's been said about the Breakside FH Black IPA- it's a great black IPA, but the roast does hide the fresh Strata some.
