    1) Drekker Hausterhosen (5.5%):
A Marzen Oktoberfest from North Dakota with flavors of earthy bread, toast, brown sugar, and smoke. Clean and dry.
    versus
    2) Steel Toe Marzen (5.8%): A Marzen Oktoberfest from Minnesota with flavors of smooth caramel and earthy toasted notes. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

    Winner: Drekker Hausterhosen
Oktoberfest Marzen Battle. First is Drekker. Great smooth bread flavors. Finishes clean and drier.
Next is Steel Toe. A bit sweeter with more caramel. Very good too.
The drinkability of Drekker is excellent.

Thanks to all that have served and are serving now on this Veterans Day. Grocery shopping, a walk, and yardwork finished, time to relax. Goose Island Honker's Ale. Really liking the release of the original beer from Goose Island. Will definitely be buying more. Cheers!

Forgot to pay tribute to the many heroes who served our country on this Veteran’s Day. My dad and his high school buddies graduated in 1950 just as the Korean War was gearing up. They all volunteered to join the Air Force knowing the draft was coming. Fortunately, he spent his time in Germany on search and rescue and came home without wounds, but many stories. He passed in 2008. Miss you, Dad!

I was very impressed with the first Von Trapp offering i had last week, wish more drops would happen in Western NC!

Another great comparison of the German Styles, personally i have had a palate reawakening to the Marzen style this fall, enjoyed several while watching NFL games yesterday!

Onto round 2 and enjoying my first Hopslam in a few years along with some more Allman Bros.
    Cheers!

    1) Hop Butcher Through The Uprights (7.8% canned 9/4/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Amarillo, Simcoe, and Nelson with flavors of tropical orange, pineapple, stonefruit, and sweet grape.
    versus
    2) Hop Butcher Your Wish is Hazy (8.0% canned 8/27/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Simcoe, Nelson, & Moteuka for flavors of orange, blueberry, tropical melon, strawberry, cotton candy, lime and mango. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner: Your Wish Is Hazy
Hop Butcher IPA Battle. First is Through The Uprights. Some older school and citrus flavors hops. Some of that resinous Simcoe flavor in here of tangerine and stonefruit.
Next is Your Wish Is Hazy. Again Citra, Nelson, and Simcoe, but more of a hop variety with Moteuka. Give it sort of that lime/piney bite.
Two very similar hop profiles, and probably the same actual hop batches given the canning dates, but this is a cool experiment that shows the dynamics from the addition of the Moteuka hop. Some nice green pine and lime flavors. Moteuka is quickly becoming one of my favorite hops. Another couple of great IPAs from Hop Butcher.

Ex Novo Brewing Co. -- V Is For Vienna

Outstanding dark gold and amber body, crystal clear; stunning carbonation; thick head, frothy and sticky, long-lasting. Incredible nose of toasted malt and honey; wisp of hop spiciness. Fantastic taste; toasted and roasted grains; roasted nuts and melba toast; mildly burnt honey; fine balanced hop bitterness complementing the malt sweetness. Medium-heavy body; excellent residual sugar coating on the palate; sense of warmth throughout.

I love a well-made Vienna lager. This one hits the marks for me: rich, malty flavor with a correspondingly viscous and warm mouthfeel. Balanced, complex, delightful.

You're making me want to try Urquell again...

First time I ever had it was from the bottle and it was skunked. Tried it from a can and it tasted weird. That was several years ago, maybe I have matured palate-wise...

Total Wine once sold a brewery holiday gift pack...an Urquell metal lunchbox with 4 cans of Urquell in it. I was in law enforcement and gave it to one of our dispatchers (RIP, he died of cancer shortly after) , since he loved Urquell...dared him to pack a lunch in the lunchbox and see what the supervisor said.

    Cheers!

Thanks, they're both rescues..tan dog was adopted in 2019 from Oklahoma (pulled from a New Mexico shelter - found wandering the streets, owner took her friend back but didn't want her) area and black dog in 2021 from Minneapolis area, abandoned without food or water inside.

We are in a big city but there's about 25 acres of open area for them to play in our back yard, thanks to private property and city park all butted up against each other, so we play and do zoomies (they do more zoomies than me hahahaha)
