Working our way through the beer fridge. Crab cakes and spicy shrimp polenta on deck for later.
My wife and I love to go out most of the year, but we consider tonight amateur night. Netflix it is.

Been a long time since I’ve posted on WBAYDN but saw Todd post a reminder. Having a pregame beer, Twin Elephant’s Nosh: Motueka and Nelson Sauvin before going out for NYE. Of course going out now means hanging out at a couple’s house in town. Happy New Year BAs!!

Not quite as coffee forward, more of a hint. Higher focus on the chocolate.

I feel like their Stouts are pretty highly rated too, locally they are at least, I don't know about trade value. I haven't seen a style that they're actively not good at brewing, and I've had like 300+ of their beers.

Jackie O's Taproom & Brewery -- Bourbon Barrel Dark Apparition
    Imperial stout
    ABV: 12.9%; pouring temperature: 49.3 °F; bottling info: 2024
Sourcer: local purchase (Coaltrain Fine Wine, Craft Beer & Spirits)

    4.29/5 rDev -0.9%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Near ink-black pour, clear, with an opaque look in the glass; no sustained head, just a thin cap of foam that soon recedes to a ring of tan foam inside the glass. Great barrel-aged aroma; rich, dark, roasted malt sweetness cut with a noticeable whiskey quality; cocoa; figs. Outstanding taste; rich sweetness; milk and dark chocolate; cocoa; low-key earthy spiciness; rye; bourbon percolates up near the finish; well-balanced and complex. Heavy, chewy body; thick and velvety on the palate; soft warmth emanates through the beer; mild overall stickiness.

This glorious imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels, delivers satisfaction with the taste. The beer is engaging on all fronts. Deep, rich, and robust, infused with a gentle and nuanced bourbon barrel character.

...have a few books I will hopefully read early in the new year...'The Demon-Haunted World' and the Library of America anthology 'The Western' I've already started on...and keeping in line with my love for classic American literature, I have another LOA book featuring Hemingway works...I was particularly drawn to that for the collection of short stories called 'Men Without Women', which is a name of Little Steven's (aka Steven van Zandt) first Disciple of Souls album (and who I first got to see at the Cleveland Agora in 1983)...I don't know if there is any connection between the Hemingway and Van Zandt pieces, but having also seen a bullfight in Barcelona in the late 1980s, and Hemingway writes about that, too, in 'Men Without Women', well, I just have to dive into this stuff...so, @SLeffler27, get your 2025 'What Book Are You Reading Now (2025)' spreadsheet fired-up (although I figure @champ103 will still consume most books that the rest of us participants combined in that thread)...

Picking up a lot of lactose? Double Shot I have rated very high. Human Condition is another milk stout of theirs that I also like.

Stouts get love, no doubt. It's just that most people outside of the know think that they're just NEIPA. It's a discredit to how great they are as an overall brewery. I'm not telling you anything you don't know already. Just showing your post love. Happy New Year's Eve!!!

The last 3 mile walk, $2 pints Tuesday of 2024 is in the books. Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue on the left, Three Floyds Gumballhead upper right, and SingleSpeed Zach's Mexican Donuts lower right. A great finish to the year!
