Today we shattered the record high, it was officially 55° here in Minnesota. Perfect day for a hike with the rescue dogs - ran to the grocery store after and one of the cooks was grilling NY strip steaks outside, in a short sleeve shirt.


Perfect afternoon to sit outside and watch the sun set....

I typically don’t attend the releases days between the crowds and plastic cups due to crowds, but love coming shortly thereafter to enjoy what is left in a more relaxing setting. Learned I can order a 10 oz pour instead of a 5 oz sample. I prefer an 8-12 oz pour of BA stouts for a proper review and enjoyment.

Charlie @GuyFawkes said this offering may be the best Deep Woods release ever on Sunday, so I had to order this one and see for myself.

Full review linked above. Overall this is a solid offering, the strong barrels yielding a 17% ABV experience that doesn’t feel as strong, a nice smooth bourbon experience, but a bit sweeter than my preferred option. Glad you pointed this one out Charlie and I was able to order today.

The band is here today, as I believe they are here many Thursdays, though near the canning line vs. the back of the taproom where I’m used to seeing them (and two piece vs. the three I’ve seen a few time last year).



They are on break. On here now, a band is like to see more of in WBAYDN.

 

I stopped at Twin Elephant to try its new BBA version of S’mores Borg, a really good Imperial Stout. It’s not aged in barrels per se but blended with a Stout which was. Delish! Thursday cheers, BAs!

TH doesn't distribute unfortunately....but in the long run its prob better. It cuts down on cost. I was just there Tuesday. They are like printing money there - and that's just Charleton. The place is just massive. Has to be one of the biggest niche/ independent brewery in the country. They really have it down and the product sells itself.

 

I hope it's not the norovirus. I heard that's prevalent right now. Get well soon!

What is it about this time of year? There are so many fantastic releases I can hardly keep up.
Here's a perennial from the good folks at Great Lakes: Chillwave. 9%, and they call it just a Double IPA. They have a unique spin on their IPAs (cf. Lake Erie Monster, Commander Perry, this guy). Not totally West Coast, god no not hazies, what I call Midwest IPAs (is there such a thing?).
No complaints at all, none, well maybe one. This release only 12 ouncers. Kind of the inverse of the Woody Allen line "the food was so terrible and the portions were so small".

 

Home from the day and cracked some Masthead haze acquired from the illustrious @rpbuckeye. This is as dank as you like!

 

Oysters for chow tonight.

 

Back home, feeling like some juicy hops.

Featuring loads of mango, tangerine, and pineapple, I could drink this until it came out my ears. Absolutely love it.
