    Fallen Angel by Church End.

English pale ale enjoyed in the Alehouse in Reading. Wife desperately trying to get out of the photo!

Grabbed a couple of Church End bottles in Birmingham, but can imagine them being way better on tap or cask.

    G'day all!

Nice crispy 3°F this morning. This arrived yesterday from Good Times Oakland. Canned January 15th. The Mosaic hops are doing their thing. Fruity, hoppy, a bit of spiciness. Good brew.

    Prost!

The mild was beautiful. The pale was good too just not a patch on the mild.

It is a beautiful snowy morning in Titletown, USA. This phenomenal beer was provided by @azuelke. It is his favorite IPA, so I know it was hard to part with it. It is great to see @JamFuel join us for a virtual bar Saturday. Hopefully he can join us for the BeerAdvocate Zoom gathering tonight. I will be there for sure.

I have exactly 1 of those left, trying to decide if it’s fit for my “ultimate day of stouts” and keep it there or just drink it and hope they brew more soon.
    Cheers!

Good day everyone! Thanks @jkblr for getting us going. The bar is already quite busy today.

Tiger Original Lager from Singapore is nothing earthshaking, clean, and good with local food.

Good morning, BAs! I've spent all morning getting a ton of work done around the house, and I'm ready to sit down and relax.

Last week, in the spirit of Celluary, I cracked open a 2017 Huna. While the flavors held up impressively, it was also badly oxidized, and frankly, neither of us could get through it. It's a shame, but that's the risk you run when you toss something into the cellar ... and then forget about it.

(TBH, I didn't so much forget about my Hunas; I was saving them for a huge vertical that never materialized, because we are hermits without friends.)

Today, then, I'm going to go back to Huna, but I'm trying a 2023 bottle, for which I have high hopes. By bookending my oldest and newest Hunas, I can hopefully get an idea of how well this beer is holding up overall (a vertical separated by time). If this one is bad, then all of the rest are going to be bad, but if this one is good, then I can slowly work my way through the older bottles and figure out how long is too long. I already know 7+ years is too long.

Little, if any, oxidation on the nose. Story is the same for the palate: there's some dark fruitiness that I don't necessarily associate with fresh Huna, but not so much that it's overpowering, or implies that she's gone bad. And even then, between the roasty stout base, cinnamon, and peppers, Huna has a solid amount of that flavor when fresh, so I'm not sure how much age has impacted the profile at all.

    This is really quite good.

Did it benefit from aging more than a year? Not in any way that I can tell. The pepper spice in Huna is never particularly potent, and while it's a roasty stout, it's not a hoppy stout: the bitterness isn't something that fades much over time, nor needs to. It's possible the pepper and chocolate have muted due to the time, but not noticeably so - not without being able to side-by-side it with a fresh example. And even then, I picked up on chocolate and peppers in the 2017 bottle.

Overall, a very good beer, but drink your Huna fresh.

    Cheers!
