Think the forecasted weather will keep some people away?

 

Stout week has been pretty dead overall since Covid

 

It definitely has been far from "dead," not cellar 10 year level but still

Weather might keep away some locals that day because of our PTSD from the snowstorm last month but if people travel in they'll probably be fine getting there as long as it doesn't ice too quickly.

 

Why does SP dislike LC?

 

I blame @davidtarnow … Sometimes he makes passive aggressive comments on their social media posts and I think they are punishing all of us for it.

 

Compared to what it was pre Covid I’d say dead is a fair assessment

I think the saying goes, “I never wanted to belong to a club that would have me as a member.”

La coterie used to be small and exclusive like a Hollywood A-list club for neck beards. Now it’s like the rewards club at Schnucks where everyone is a member, you get some perks, but you can’t even use your membership on bananas and I love bananas.

Just now realizing that the only benefit of the membership was avoiding packages but now they aren't even doing packages for the public since BBT2024. So there are really no benefits of the membership left. What a joke.

 

I did the math a few months back - if you'd have just bought every package released to the public, you'd have obtained every stout except for DGC, For Alan, and the Silent Barrels and spent roughly $100 more dollars for all of the additional beers in the packages ($100 over the membership fee, I mean). So while it would have been $100 more expensive, you weren't paying the up front fee and probably could have picked and chosen which packages you wanted to mitigate against that.

You also obviously would have not received the included bottles or the glass....

 

I don’t think you’d have gotten With Brad unless you went to public release, but your point still stands

 

I figured I was missing something there too - but let's also remember....a lot of LC members also didn't get With Brad - that sold out fairly quickly (at least relative to 2024 releases....)

 

This is both funny and extremely on-point.

I mean, some memberships obviously are pretty useless. Look at any hotel loyalty program, and the value you get from them is like 1cent on the dollar unless you have a branded credit card and status. Without those things it'll take you like 15+ stays to get 1 free night. But LC wasn't that in the past, nor would any rational person reasonably assume the benefits would change so dramatically without any directive from SP. I mean, I'd love for someone like @William_Navidson to weigh in, but I assume if someone had the money and really wanted to be incredibly petty and litigious, I assume you could sue and win for SP (seemingly) intentionally misleading (duping?) consumers into joining/renewing.

Everyone isn't frustrated because they signed up for something and got exactly what they knew they'd get and they didn't correctly calculate the value of the membership. Everyone is upset, because there was precedent set by all previous LC member-years, and this year stands in stark contrast. -And it is obviously intentional. It's not like they brewed 12 beers that would be on-site/LC only, and they lost 7/12 of them, 2 had unexpectedly low yield due to barrel leakage, and 1 was scrapped, and so members only got 2 beers. They just made a conscious decision to do absolutely nothing for LC. I mean, they had lots of opportunities to do something, and they chose to do nothing.

 

I don't really think it's insane that SP has a bottle or so for these large events to lure people to attend. I do think it's a little crazy that, presuming no unexpected announcement today, the last 2 events are going to yield 8 bottles that your core membership didn't even get a shot at unless they traveled to the Cellar.
