1) Hop Butcher Mellotron (7.5% canned 12/29/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Azaaca, & Moteuka for flavors of lemon, papaya, and bright citrus.
versus
2) Hop Butcher Best Buds (8.0% canned 11/19/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Simcoe and Moteuka for flavors of orange citrus and zest, tropical green melon, and some lime. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Happy Friday Hop Butcher IPA Battle. First is Mellotron. Some great Moteuka and smooth green notes here. Been drinking a lot of these lately.
Next is Hop Butcher Beds Buds, a collab with American Solera. Easy to distinguish in the Beer Battle with the more resinous stonefruit and apricot flavor from the Simcoe here. Also excellent.
I think Best Buds shows the flavor a bit better. Mellotron drinks a bit more mellow than I expected.
Winner: Hop Butcher Best Buds

The London Pride disappeared in a hurry. First time trying this excellent Helles. $19 for a sixer? Ouch, but it's tasty.

Forgot to mention that it's a very important day- not Valentine's, but the start of the college baseball season!

 

New beer for me. Oddstory Woven Stone Vienna Lager 5.2%. Some of you all don't know of my love of a great Vienna Lager. Hard style to find done well. This one surprised me. The brewery hit the style box pretty well. Toasty, soft, and drying with a good but not overdone bitterness. Nice job by this Chattanooga brewery. A gift from my sister.

 

Dude. You're on roll with the beers today. And yes, that beer is worth it if you like Helles.

Friday I’m In Love ~ The Cure

 

Well, here's something I've never done before, and I'm always suspicious when someone says they've done it: apparently, I left a can of Heady in one of my soft-sided coolers in the garage, which has been very cold for the last several weeks. I must have left it in there right before Christmas, which is the last time I got a hold of Heady. Can is eight weeks old, but glorious as usual. A Valentine's Day miracle!
