I haven't seen many beers from Hoppin' Frog, the local bottle shop had a few different 8oz cans, I bought a fee, this was the only one that wasn't an Imperial Stout.

Yup, a lot of the island is rainforest so its quite humid. The winds off the water along the coast were very welcome. About 85 degrees during the day, 65 at night.

So, old hops used in brewing can impart a cheese-like aroma to beer... is there some method of "aging" that keeps the hops from going bad?

I get no negative aroma from this beer. I think it's excellent - enough depth of flavor to be interesting, but very easy drinking. Human Robot's full description:
This is the brief note they made about the method:

Their aging "method" seems chancy, but I guess it's working okay.

Been some action here the past few days so...

Following up my Sam Adams Light post with this one that made its yearly return...the brewery and beer that opened my eyes to the fact that AAL isn't just a macro watered down beer style.

With Sam still semi fresh in my memory, this beer is every bit as clean but with such a nicer hop character; the finish is impeccable to me; the interplay between that touch of sweetness while on the tongue is followed up perfectly by such a perfectly clean finish; the hops enhance the dryness. For price comparison this beer is actually $1 cheaper than the Sam too :beers:

From talking to one of the owners of Von C Brewing their beers are distributed to Southern Jersey. Have you seen them at any of your local beer retailers?

The Von C CAP beer, OG Pils, won a Gold Medal at the 2023 World Cup. If you could obtain this beer a side-by-side tasting with Wading Out would be a useful exercise.

Aroma of grassy hops and doughy pale malt-it's nice. similar taste, with a drier finish with a bit of hop bitterness. makes it very easy drinking. thin to medium bodied, the mouthfeel is a little slick. Overall this exceeded my expectations (especially given the unclear date code on the can) - this is quite good.

Slightly cloudy, pale golden on pouring with a good head. Aroma is lightly floral with hints of bread - on tasting, biscuity bready malt mingles with floral, citrusy, slightly grass hops. Everything is well balanced and flavorful but still light, crisp, and refreshing with a clean finish - not much bitterness, but not too much sweetness either. Beautiful lager.

Apparently they make another Helles with an older recipe. I'll have to see if I can find it and do a side-by-side with this one.

Rauchbier thread? Bock thread? German-style beer thread? I think I'll cover all the bases with the over-arching Lager thread.

    Rauch the Bocck.

A new Rauchbier from my local favorite, Roaring Table. Brewed in collaboration with a local, well-reviewed BBQ joint -- perfect for a Rauch, no? But maybe just a little too smoky for most palates... yet still pretty drinkable.

As my review points out, I wish there was more of a malt backbone to this beer, but when a BBQ joint is smoking your malts, maybe this is what to expect!

Still a decent drinker, but not recommended for the uninitiated. It could scare you off the style. Me? I bought two 4-packs untested and I don't think I'll have trouble finishing them.

Enjoying a couple of lagers today. The von Trapp Dunkel was very well done, need to find fresher (this was past the best by date) and definitely would invest in a sixer of this down the road.
The Radeberger Pils gets a lot of mixed reviews on the BA site maybe due to age of the beer, reviewer style bias (small = boring/average), etc. I find Rad Pils hits all the style guidelines very well. Could not find any kind of dating on the cans or packaging but this edition is tasting nice.
    Cheers!

How timely for your post! I read somewhere yesterday that today is National Bock Day. The article went on to name the beer styles in the Bock family, but it didn't list dopplebock. I don't care, I'm having one with a brat for dinner tonight to help celebrate the day.
