What beer are you drinking now? #4531

Good Sunday afternoon, Virtual Bar mates. We drove up from the Shore this morning; the weather is better up here. It's milder with less wind. Yesterday, I posted this Russian Imperial Stout from Obscura Brewing Co. I bought cans and just reviewed it on the NBW thread. The Stout was more chocolaty on draught. From the can, there is more bitter nutty char. But it's nonetheless an impressive offering from a brewery that just opened last weekend. I anticipate posting many more beers from Obscura on BA. Heard good things about their lagers. I've got to make a trip out to Cleveland. Between Fat Heads, Masthead, and Noble Beast, I'll be a happy guy. Any other brewery suggestions out there?

If I was marooned on a desert island for the rest of my life and could only bring one beer with me, it would be this.

A: hazy golden, like a wheat field in the autumn.

S: like fresh baked banana bread.

T: heaven on Earth. Rich, full, malty, bready, primary banana and secondary clove notes.

F: like velvet in your mouth.

Overall, might be my new favorite beer.

After drinking a Russian Imperial Stout I crave some citrus. This DIPA is 4.5 weeks old but is still bursting with tangerine and pineapple. My goal when I stop working full time is to emulate the guy on the can (only kidding - or maybe not). Cheers!

 

Tributary Mott the Lesser Stout

On tap at Novare Res in Portland Maine.

Overall a surprising disappointment. A thin, astringent beer. Not what a stout should be.

A: opaque dark brown/black, like a stout should be.

S: promising, suggesting heavy molasses.

F: starts disappointing. Thin, watery, unexpected for a stout.

T: falls apart in the mouth. Astringent, no real flavors other than a little cardboard. Unexpected bitterness on the finish.

Overall, unsatisfying. I was expecting something along the lines of a Bissell Brothers stout. Instead it’s a home brew gone bad. One and done.
