Is this normal? How many people out there run out and buy a limited release beer just have it added to their collection. Like today for instance. I ran out and bought all the Bell's Black Note 12oz bottles I was allowed, 1 case. Now i'm left looking at them, scared to open the case and drink any. I want to but I don't want to run out.
Any time these beers are put on tap, I'm there drinking till I have my fill. I love these beers but i'm finding that I'd rather collect it than open a bottle and enjoy it.... So... Is this normal or do I have a problem?

My rate of purchase is faster than my rate of consumption. There are times when I go to grab a beer and I just end up staring at them sitting there for 20 minutes. Then I go back upstairs without any beer because I couldn't decide what I wanted to drink.

    It's a problem.

It is made to be poured in a glass and consumed. It is not made for meat spanking.

I guess if you have unlimited funds and cellar space this not a problem. One day your children will be very happy (hopefully they like beer)

I typically have a good stash of beer in my fridge. I will open it up many nights and say "damn, nothing to drink," even though it's full of bombers and 750s of really good beer. That's a problem.

On the other hand, I will have friends over and we will be drinking and eating and I will bust out one of my "special" bottles. One thing leads to another and I'm pouring three-year verticals of barleywines, opening up Anniversary Ales and dipping into the Utopias. Those nights are good. Beer is made to be consumed. I believe the bible says something about it being an unforgivable sin to die with a fridge full of unopened beer (nothing about a fridge full of opened beer though, which would probably be weird anyways).

It's definitely better to just enjoy the beers that you have in stock. If the mood strikes for a beer that you have, however "rare" or "expensive", what better time to drink it than right then and there? Unless, of course, you have purchased the beer to consume at a specific point in time in the future. I have never regretted drinking an awesome beer.

I think it's definitely alright to hold onto special items for a while. The question is, are you holding them to drink on a special occasion or are you actually never planning on drinking or trading them? The second might be a problem!

It loses its value once you take it out of the package, I wouldn't chance it bro.

I have no problem drinking my beers. If I get a couple bottles with the intention to save them I do but other than that, I drink up. I have done this with wine tho. We have like 8-10 bottles of wine that are so "special" we dont open them, which is dumb, but I guess there will come a time.

I always save my cool beers for special occasions. I have a Fruet all ready to go for my birthday on the 20th. Can't wait! (I also tend to crack into my collection on brew days)

It took me too long to get over this sort of mentality, but the past 6mo. have been refreshing trading less/buying less to keep.

I buy too many big beers, and then open the fridge and see nothing I want to drink (alone). Have to force myself to buy lower ABV stuff...every night isn't an insane bottleshare.

Not trying to jinx things or be a buzzkill, but tomorrow is never guaranteed. Enjoy those beers and wine while you can...you may never see that special day. I actually find myself wanting to drink my best beers just in case it's the last chance I get.

I just finished a Latitude 48 and big bowl of red beans and rice, this thread has convinced me to go open something special. I think it'll be a Black Albert.

Why on earth would you buy beer and not drink it?

    YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

protip: these things called breweries, right? They always make more beer, ya dig? So drink what you got.
