Seriously underwhelmed by Hopslam

    He he.. makes me laugh. I am underwhelmed does not mean i can't drink it. It is just not what i expected. I can drink it all day, it is as smooth. But if someone says that it is a DIPA, given the 10% it doesn't have any characteristics of one. I also said that as much as i would like to trade, i can't because of my location.

    Trade it for some PtE instead.

    I drank one last year that was 6 months old. Thought it was fantastic.

    Really?!?!? First off, who buys a case of a beer they hope they will like at the price Hopslam is? Second I want to driink the beer you drink that makes Hopslam a dissapointment.

    Actually....I feel for you. I had a similar situation. Some friends of mine once told about this girl. She sounded great. I called and spoke to her on the phone. Then; completely certain I would like her, I proposed. She accepted (damn!) Needless to say; I was also completely underwhelmed. Crap.:angry:

    So you have never had a 100% honey mead that has plenty of honey flavor and aroma, even though the simple sugars ferment out? Just asking.

    Since i spend some time here on BA, i guess i presume certain things, especially as a noob. So if a beer reviewed by over 4000 people can turn out to be 'a not so good' brew, i think you are right. I need to be more cautious. But as they say, you never know till you try. I definitely should not try with a case though. :slight_frown:

    did you have it straight from the fridge? did you pour it and let it warm up for 10 minutes or so?

    i would not accuse fresh hopslam of having "not enough aroma."

    that's not what "completely certain" means.

    I bought the case, put one bottle in the freezer, took it out after 45 minutes, poured into a good enough snifter, Waited for 5 minutes, smelled it and my reaction. I have 5 more bottles or rather 23 more to appreciate it and get to the point. May be i am judging it prematurely, but still, one week old and does not blow one off by nose just after opening the bottle is not worth this hype.
