What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #4843

Good morning BAdvocates. I'm drinking a Breakside Dreamers of the Golden Dream "Pacific Ocean" IPA in collaboration with Everywhere. Canned 7/18 and holding up brilliantly. Clouds are burning off and the temperature is up to 40, can't wait finish up my computer work. Think I have to spend the afternoon messing with carb on my car. Most anything is better than sitting and staring at screen so I'll take it!

Worked with a guy who would almost exclusively listen to Tom Petty. Don't get me wrong, Petty was a great musician but when you're riding in the truck for 6 hours with the same songs on repeat your nerves start to get grated on.

I played golf yesterday for the first time in three weeks. Ball-striking was great, short game was horrible. About what I had expected.
Today is mostly cloudy and cool. Waiting to see what, if any, precipitation is coming our way.

Happy Thursday BAs! Just a light dusting of snow today, as I sip on this Maple Strong & Free from Caledon Hills Brewing. Cheers, eh?

 

Dudes. Dudettes. This is a fun little experiment right here. Peter's Lager, a border bier from Bierlland, lashed into a sip of the previous Pipeworks' dark center-of-the-earth surprise. Wow. It's redolent of a craft Festbier. And the lacing is super complex from the Stout cling.
We must carry the torch.

Equal Parts Arbor Pale Ale in the glass.

Sufjan Stevens spinning, his incredible new album (well from 2023 new anyway). Javelin spinning. Seriously one of his best albums since Illinois and Carrie & Lowell.

 

Lunch beer . . .

Yazoo Brewing Gerst Amber Ale

Bright amber gold with light tan cap and moderate lacing

Nice touches of toffee, caramely malt with little hop presence.

Good rich flavor here, nicely rounded with a hint of sweetness and hops playing a very diminished role. Darker malt flavor is evident without any roasted malt bitterness.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall its an Amber Ale worthy of the name in color, flavor, texture and taste.

 

1) Half Acre Ridge Tree (4.5%): A Czech Dark Lager from Chicago with flavors of dark malt, cocoa, light roast. Clean.
versus
2) Drekker Leisure Suits & Laser Beams (5.2%): A Czech Amber lager from North Dakota with flavors of dark malt, amber notes, toasted and roasted flavors. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Czech Dark versus Czech Amber Lager Battle. Half Acre Ridge Tree leans toward a Czech dark lager with mild roasted notes. Also some earthy bready notes resembling a German lager. Balanced and clean.
Next, Drekker with a Czech Amber. Similar flavors, but slightly more amber, and earthy bread malts. Overall similar.

Getting ready for the new 2026 Sierra Nevada society drop today by having the last of my 2024 society stash, a lovely English Barleywine aged in Scotch barrels for a year which primarily lend a bit of heat and balancing but not the distinctive Speyside Trail flavor. Definitely a toffee bomb with some date sweetness. This has aged well.

Happy Thursday ba. Crazy weather here w/ temps almost hitting 50. Saturday will be below 10, and a huge snow storm, for this area, expected sun. Perfectly normal.

into it w/ Soupadelic- soup du jour, single hop dipa (superdelic), sand city. Nothing great but decent enough and the 9% helps,

 

Nice, but not great

 

There have been a few nationalist themed beers this year. This is one of the best.
