The spot wasn't finished when they opened, but yes, it's more of a bar and there's fewer books. The TV is just by the bar, and the other rooms have the cozy booths. Can't wait to go back.

pretty plain atmosphere indoors, but the outdoor space looks nice. cask engines aren't running yet. i'll be through plenty this summer.

I am seeing a lot of unclear "coming soon" ads on Facebook from pFriem, i wonder what they have coming? I am hoping they take over Rogues Pub on the bayfront at Newport.

That's be cool, but it's probably too soon for anything like that to happen. These things tend to move slowly.

IN one add they showed ocean water and a very large "New". But today they showed a pineapple. So maybe Hawaii.

Breakside Brewery of Portland, Oregon, teamed up with Columbia Sportswear to create a beer that reeks with the essence of the steamy wilderness: it’s made with bear poop.

    What.

Yes. There's currently a thread going in the Beer release forum about this new beer (I believe the brand name is Nature Calls). I would recommend posting there, if anyone would like to weigh in on this.

Personally, I would be interested in hearing from someone at Breakside about this new "enterprise." @afrokaze?

Just came here to post this.
Wondering which of you Portland BAs will be brave enough to try it? Or which of y'all will admit to having done so?

Does a bear shit in the woods?

I'm curious, but won't pay ballpark prices for it, and will grab a single if I see it.

My initial reaction was to wonder why Columbia was collaborating with Dogfish Head!

I actually drank a bottle (a 9oz bottle, IIRC) of the Mikkeller (?) beer brewed with the coffee that is harvested from weasel poop around 15yrs ago. It was actually pretty good.

Let me say first, I don't work in advertising. All I know is that the water used was clean and of drinking quality. Reclaimed waste water is going to increasingly become a part of our lives whether we like it or not, so it might as well be turned into beer. The honey and huckleberry used in the beer are a nod towards what a bear might eat.

I am probably one of the bigger Breakside fanboys in the NW forum. But I am not going to try that beer.

It's made with bear poop. Why?

There are better ways I can support the brewery than participating in what feels to me like nothing more than a publicity stunt.

    Your mileage may vary.

I mean, ALL of the water we drink, especially in the Portland area, came from areas where bears may live and poop and very likely contained bear poop (and deer/squirrel/salmon/whatever animal exists in the wild) before it came down to the reservoirs and processing plants and into our homes, so if it's just marketing thing to grab a headline using the same water they always do, then it's funny.
