So today’s National Cocktail Day huh? Well, I think old Beermeister32 is going for a Mulligan today, there’s no hard booze in sight and this “is” a beer blog ‘fer crying out loud!

So let’s take a look as see what we can do to improvise a “Beer Cocktail!

So what’s in a cocktail anyway? Well, your core liquor, mixer and any other items you want to add.

So in that spirit (spirit!), let’s make a BEER COCKTAIL! Let’s see we’ll use one puny, diminutive and wimpy 8.4 ounce baby can of these tasty 4.7% ABV Sierra Nevada Pilsners. This is the one with the nearly-IPA hop package. Who the heck would ever be satisfied with something so small! Anyway, maybe it is supposed to be a chaser..... To that we’ll add mixer. In this case good ‘ol Bud Zero, my favorite “beer mixer” for making Blenders!

OK, so what I typically refer to as a beer “Blender,” we’ll call a “Beer Cocktail” for today’s purposes! Tastes great! Cheers!

Cigar City Brewing Co. -- Never A Straight Answer
Double dry-hopped double India pale ale

Pours a hazy, ultimately cloudy, appearance; semi-clear tangerine hue; thick, dense, frothy head, long-lasting. Very nice smell; citrus and oats; tangerine and orange elements. Fine, mellow flavor; muted juicy citrus notes; cantaloupe; very subdued bitterness; biscuit and oat malt backbone. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; soft with a liquid velvet sensation; semi-juicy.

Overall, this is a very nice hazy double India pale ale. Nuance and subtlety are the key defining qualities of this beer. Everything seems really balanced with nothing screaming overkill. The taste seems a tad flat overall, not tasteless or anything like that, just somewhat uninspired. Perhaps this is the age of the beer. For a double dry-hopped double India pale ale, this is quite approachable but also seems really modest for the brewing technique. One certainly gleans the underpinnings of the beer: the citrus, the bitterness, the heft and juiciness, yet these factors never get into your face, either. And this is the beauty of the beer: nuance (although I suspect a version of this at two weeks or so of age would really deliver a better overall taste impression). Anyway, I do like this hazy. It is not as harsh or brash as many, although I do wish there was just a tad more oomph to the overall flavor.

6th Lord. An IPA brewed by Basic City. All Virginia brewed IPAs tonight so far. Maybe the next one in the lineup will change that.

Looks good! Me, not having any sense of control or no barriers to stop me, would have added a couple of shots of bourbon. But that would have been a bad idea.
