I asked AI about this to see what it had to say - maybe this information would be helpful in terms of asking your doctors to consider other possible causes.

It’s not a simple fungal infection
Tinea cruris (classic jock itch) usually:

    - Spares the scrotum
    - Has a raised, scaly border
    - Responds to antifungals within 1–2 weeks

When the scrotum is involved and it’s red, shiny, and sensitive, dermatologists often consider intertrigo, yeast (Candida), or irritant dermatitis instead. These can look similar but respond to different treatments.

The treatments themselves can make things worse
    This is surprisingly common:

    - Steroid creams can temporarily reduce redness but worsen fungal or yeast infections.
    - Strong antifungals can irritate already-sensitive skin.
    - Combination creams (steroid + antifungal) can mask symptoms without fixing the cause.

If you’ve bounced between two different approaches, your skin may be stuck in a cycle of irritation.

There’s an irritant or friction factor no one has identified yet
The scrotum is extremely reactive. Things that can keep the area inflamed even if the original problem is gone:

    - Sweat trapped against the skin
    - Tight underwear or synthetic fabrics
    - Over-washing or scrubbing
    - Powders, sprays, or deodorant-type products
    - Residual moisture after showering
    - Laundry detergents or dryer sheets

When the skin barrier is damaged, anything can sting and keep the redness going.

    Why your doctors may disagree
This isn’t incompetence — it’s that groin rashes are notoriously hard to distinguish visually.
Dermatologists often say the scrotum is “the great imitator” because:

    - Fungal, yeast, eczema, and irritation can all look nearly identical
    - Symptoms overlap
    - The skin reacts dramatically to even mild triggers

Two clinicians can look at the same rash and reasonably reach different conclusions.

What usually happens next in cases like this
Without giving you medical instructions, here’s what doctors often consider when a groin rash doesn’t improve:

    - Stopping all active creams for a few days to let the skin calm down
    - Patch testing if allergic contact dermatitis is suspected
    - A skin scraping or culture to confirm or rule out fungus/yeast
    - A very gentle, barrier-repair approach if irritation is the main issue
    - Checking for athlete’s foot, because it can reinfect the groin

Persistent symptoms for 5 weeks is absolutely something to bring back to a clinician — especially since you’ve already tried two treatments without improvement.

What you can safely focus on in the meantime
These are general, non-medication strategies that dermatologists often recommend for anyone with groin irritation:

    - Keep the area dry, not just clean
    - Use loose, breathable cotton underwear
    - Avoid powders, deodorants, or fragranced products
    - Pat dry after showering — no rubbing
    - Change out of sweaty clothes quickly
    - Avoid hot showers on the area

These don’t treat the underlying cause, but they reduce the “fuel” that keeps the irritation going.

@vabeerguy - I bought some more Master Shredder today. This is a good beer and I like that it's only 5.5% abv so I can have a few and not get buzzing.
