6 straight days of rain here just south of Asheville after a major lack of it this spring; much needed to sustain the fauna, flora, and farms.
Enjoying Motueka Pilsner from Cellarest in West Asheville ahead of the Diamondbacks-Giants game.
    Cheers!

More Sonny Rollins? Oh yeah...Freedom Suite spinning. The story goes that Sonny had an entire article written for the liner notes of segregation in the late 50's, but the record company was too chicken to post it on the album. Instead the liner notes is by some corporate shill, incredibly bland and generic, and mentions nothing of the political and racial importance that this album represented, ugh. I have always wanted to read what Sonny originally wrote, but I guess that won't happen. It was also one of the inspirations for Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite, and he is also the drummer here.

Altstadt Vienna Lager in the glass.

    1) Weihenstephaner Pilsner (5.1%):
A German Pilsner with flavors of pale malts, earthy Noble hops.
    versus
    2) Weihenstephaner 1516 (5.6%): A German Kellerbier with flavors of earthy grains, bread, honey. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Weihenstephaner Battle. Pilsner versus their Kellerbier. First is their Pils. Floral, hoppy, with a nice malt balance, but this is slightly light-struck.
Next 1516. This is my new favorite beer from them. Bready, yeasty, smooth with a slight orange citrus flavor in the yeast. Dry, clean, but soft and full-bodied.
    Winner: Weihenstephaner 1516

    Good afternoon BA
A day off with the first half consisting of buying two cubic yards of bulk mulch and spreading it all across the Jkblr household landscape with the Mrs.

Apparently, we're going to an event at the zoo tonight. Mrs Jkblr is in her full "practicing for retirement" phase with summer break here. Maybe I'll get a break in August...
    Cheers all!

Happy birthday @BeardedWalrus , tear it up at the Blue Door Bottleshop!

Diamondbacks-Giants are now on, sipping on a "Friend of the Family" DIPA from Sierra Nevada. Hopping is very floral and they must have used something other than the Chico yeast as this does not come across like the typical SN DIPA. Nicely done.
    Cheers!

    1) Imprint Brewing Sunkissed (7.2% canned 3/30/26): A NEIPA from Pennsylvania with Citra, Mosaic, and Nelson for flavors of vinous white grapes, grapefruit, berry medley, and tropical pineapple.
    versus
    2) Other Half TDH Broccoli (7.9% canned 3/16/26): A NEIPA from NY with Mosaic, Simcoe, Strata, Nelson and flavors of grapefruit zest, pineapple gummies, white grape. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Imprint versus Other Half IPA Battle featuring the great duo. Mosaic and Nelson, both triple dry-hopped. . First is Imprint Sunkissed. Tons of sweet grape and mango juice. Amazing hop flavors as you'd guess and I always pick this up when I see it. Only downside is a little bit of hop burn.
Next is Other Half TDH Broccoli. Similar aromas, but more zesty white grape, grapefruit zest. More vinous. It was almost too zesty upfront, but now as it settles at two months, it's even better. Amazing IPA and wish I bought more.
    Winner: Other Half TDH Broccoli

    Yo, what's goin' on everyone?

Hump Day but takin' my NA lumps today in the form of Zero Guinness (Lill cameo). X-training day, no run, just spin-bike and elliptical and weights. Did a deep dive into the recent publications about the 2026 Colorado River Compact negotiations and what's likely to happen by the fall, to prepare my summer research students.

Otherwise, chillin' and getting prepared for a trip to New Mexico next week.

    Cheers...
