It is totally worth it. I have spent $50 on drain pours. If not for the drink certainly for the trade bait. You could catch some big fish with that.

As a guy who's ticked a lot of beers and paid over $100 for a bottle of wine but has never had Rare either, I wouldn't do it. At one point I might have and I'm sure the beer is terrific, but it's not that far removed from a number of much less expensive beers, probably to the point where I'm sure I couldn't tell it from aged BCBS blind. The rationale to buy it versus something else is so you can say you've had it and for me I'd pass.

Pass- but convince the bastard to host a tasting and to crack the sonofabitch. Then you get to keep your c-note and try the rare. Or scoop up some awesome seasonal's and use them as tasting offerings to coax him into doing it. Otherwise you're just chasing the dragon man.

It's too easy to drop that much at Novare- I've done it plenty o' times. I think I spend more there in a month then I do on my ridiculous rent. On that note, this is hands down the best bar in town. Awesome beers, fantastic cellar list, great eats, and the staff is damn good at what they do.

It's all relative to your income and financial situation. If you gotta ask, then probably not.

At least the *real world prices are coming down from the uber inflated ebay prices.

*real world being a fairly loose term, when applied to someone's cellar.

I'd look at it like this. I could get two buddies together and we could go out to a decent but not anything super fancy dinner, drink a decent bottle of wine and spend that hundred bucks easily. Or we can stay in, and split potentially one of the most epic bottles of beer ever brewed. I'd say get a friend or two to ease the cost (since I assume you'd want to share it anyway) and GO FOR IT.

But that's from the perspective of someone who's fortunate enough to be in a financial position where a $100 night is a luxury, but not any kind of backbreaker. Many others are not as fortunate, so let me be the most recent one to reiterate that it all depends on your financial state.

If you really want it, do it. The experience of having great beer is priceless. The people that say no probably spend their money on dumber shit (a few dollars at a time) and don't even realize it.

I wouldn't do it for a number of reasons. Just looking at the money alone it's a no-go for me. With that same $100 I could buy two cases of Flower Power.

48 flower powers or 1 BCBS Rare?

    No question.

But, it's your money and your life, so do as you'd like.
