I walked into "Cervezas del Mundo" in Quito, Ecuador excited to drink something other than the 2 national brands (Pilsener & Club) and was dissapointed to find a 3 beer selction: the 2 national brands plus Heineken.

I'm not saying they didn't get caught or fined(I don't know,) but it happened. It happens, you even give another example of it happening. I'm not lying.

Wow that is a pretty lame name for a bar that clearly doesn't have anything special to offer. The craft beer places near me update their tap and bottles lists online frequently and have a decent selection (even recently had Heady Topper on draft, which is very hard to get in MA).

The ones I'm referring to are Lord Hobo (http://lordhobo.com/?page_id=188) and Five Horses Tavern (http://fivehorsestavern.com/on-tap)

Seeing all these taplists is making me chomp at the proverbial bit.

I'm talking about him going on a trip and getting stuff and the place i made reference too was hiding it. You're saying this place is advertising it. With the way the 3 tier system works distributors would come down with the wrath of god on something like that...unless they're not as harsh as some of the people here in Chicago

Dylan's in Chicago. In their defense, I read a website that called it a "Craft beer bar" - I don't know that they promote themselves that way.

It was nearby and I had to meet someone in the area.

The best they had was Bell's Brown, Anchor Steam, and a Sam Adams. Weak.

The worst thing is that a lot of people think this place has gone way down hill...

Maybe they need a BA like urself to broaden their horizon? It's easy to criticize people and places for their shortcomings. It could be a place that indeed is trying to just capitalize off the rise of craft beer but for some reason I have a feeling that's not the case since they actually wrote BMC offerings on the board. You never know man, if you really want this to be a go-to local then I'd highly suggest trying to meet the staff, mgmt etc. Maybe u can help them out.

BMC customers are far more likely to be introduced to craft with a taplist like that than a place that exclusively offers craft. Because, he honest, that place that offers only craft will never even get their foot traffic. It may be a 'dupe' for BAs, but may be an open door for a curious BMC drinker.

FYI - Beer prices and taxes are generally higher in NY. Check on the price differences of brands like Stone and others...and we generally put anything around 8% or more in our house 13.5 ounce glass = 12 ounce pour = head. Not everyone pays attention or realizes what the higher alcohol beers can do to you or even what alcohol % is in 'normal' beer.

He already has a pizza joing, so why not add good beer?

And, yes, it would be illegal to sell KY beer in WV. WV wants their excise taxes.

It's not really my place to go in and tell them I think they should carry better craft beer. Who knows, they might very well be successful with what they have, all I was really pointing out was the irony of their Millions of Beers name.

All good man. Being in the biz myself the customer is the reason we exist. The name is kinda weird tho.

I did it with a place that opened last summer. They didnt carry any BMC, so it was obvious they were trying to be a real craft beer bar, however, he had far too many "accessible" craft beers. I told the owner he needed to up his game, that while those beers had a place in his lineup, they were overweighted. He listened (probably wasnt JUST me telling him this) and his lineup now runs the entire craft beer gamut. He focuses on American-made craft beer, so he doesnt have any Belgians or whatever else, but within the American craft lineup, he has a good diversity.

And the place has gone from sparse to packed. Part of that is time and name rec, of course, but I know some people who were turned off by their first impression.

Dont be afraid as a consumer to tell the retailer what you want. They can ignore you if you give a stupid suggestion.

I dunno, I would just feel strange walking in a place I've never been before and start giving them pointers on what beer they should be ordering.

Damn beer bars and their blackboard chalkings! If I ever open up a beer bar, I'm bucking the trend and rocking a whiteboard with markers!
