I've read the forums, but still looking for recommendations for bottle shops near this location. I'm heading to a hotel near 9th Ave and West 13th Street this week. I see a few Whole Foods nearby, but not sure which one is best. Looks like Manley's Wine & Spirits is nearby, but no reviews of this place.

    Recommendations appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Wines/Spirits stores can't sell beer in NY. Your best bet is Whole Foods on 7th ave and 23rd st, or hopping on the F train at 14th and 5th a few stops to Delancy St. and checking out Top Hops.

My favorite Whole Foods for beer in NYC is the one in the Bowery (95 E Houston St), they have a whole room of beer. If you go to Top Hops, you'll be close.

WF Columbus Circle is also amazing for beer and have their own beer room as well. Just take the A/C/E a few stops uptown to Columbus Circle and it's right there.

The last time I was at WF Columbus Circle the "beer room" was a tasting room (i.e. stuff on tap in a cafe atmosphere). The "beer room" at WF Bowery is many shelves of bottles, a growler station, and home brew supplies. IMHO, more bottles and variety than any of the other WF's in the area.

This is true, but not as true as it used to be. WF Columbus Circle is continuing to expand their collection and offerings, and most new limited releases are going to both CC and Bowery locations. The bar also does growler fills, though their prices are fairly insane for fill-ups.

But definitely not a place to go if you are a six or four pack kind of guy. New Beer around the corner is far more exciting and cheaper. Just check dates on delicate styles.

You can also take the 2/3 down to Chambers and visit the Tribeca WF - quite a good selection, though smaller than at the Bowery store. Decent growlers there, usually.
