I had a good time on my recent visit, but if you aren't from the area the altitude and dryness is just murder to go out drinking no matter how much water you have.

It's like dealing with severe hangovers all the time and you aren't even drunk, rampant cracking skin, and nose bleeds all the time, where is the fun in THAT!?

The fact that the author is considering the state of VT a city and it doesn't even crack the top ten shows the blatent ignorance of whomever compiled said list and immediatley undermines their credibility. One of the most unobjective lists I've seen. The title of the post should be "Top ten best beer towns as considered by someone living in a West Coast bubble". But the author declared it non-fiction so it is fact. Just more proof that "best of" lists are dumb.

Beats me. The Fillydelphians seem to scream alot. Maybe they're still mad at the Eagles.

Yes I've done that walk before as well as Green Dragon and the little gin distillery around the corner. I also happen to like the Lucky Lab over there, too many spaces, never enough time.

It's about breweries, not bars or 'distribution'. Philly is where the west coast sends it's outdated bottles to die.

How the hell does an area with 5 of the top 20 beers rated in the USA NOT make the Top 10 list??? Absurd.
Waterbury, VT area needs to be in any Top 10 list. Period.

BTW... it also owns the number 1 rated beer in America as well.

Everyday I have to say to myself, "No, resist the urge to troll on BA." But, threads like these make it so very very difficult not to give in.

This list is about the best beer cities, which I think should include bars and such, but since it doesn't and is about breweries, Phoenix and Arizona in general get crushed.

I lived in Tempe/Scottsdale from 2005-2012 and I can say that while the Phoenix area is slowly improving upon where it was about five years ago, it's still a relative "desert" for craft beer. Get it? There are some great bars and a few decent breweries (Four Peaks is king in the state but still mediocre on the national scale) but most are spread throughout the massive urban/suburban sprawl. And specifically to this site, the BA representation is very weak. Tempe is doing well so far with bars such as Taste of Tops, Boulders, WOB, and Flanny's. There's only a few great beer bars outside of Tempe like Papago, Delux, and The Hungry Monk.

So what I'm saying is, while the Phoenix area is getting better, it's no where near the Top 10 in the country for craft beer availability or number of quality breweries.

Solar Winds should be out soon. They give it a different hop treatment every year and last year's (Citra) was most excellent.

I'm gonna be the annoying Iron Goat fan boy pretty soon though.

2 great breweries (note: not in Waterbury) and 1 other brewery that makes 1 great beer does not = Great beer city.
