I was just thinking of beers that at first sip made you go "holy shit that's good". Whether it be a new style or a new take on a style, I've come across a few game changers.

    Like

    Fantome La Delmatienne
    HF Ann
    RareR DOS
    Flaming Fury
    KTG
    Southampton BLR
    Beat B3

After thinking of this list I guess its beers that live up to the hype. Either way they kick ass!

Odell Mountain Standard. I know it will taste different but I want to see if I like it better than Sublimely as far as Black IPAs are concerned.

    Three mind-blowing beers:

Cascade Drie Zwarte Pieten Sang Noir- Before sampling this (at the Portland Holiday Ale Fest in 2008), I didn't like sour beers because all I could taste was sour. And this one did start off more sour than I was comfortable with. But underneath the significant tartness were rich layers of cherries and oak and bourbon. When I focused on those flavors, I started to see how the sourness fit together with the rest of the beer. It was one of those "Aha! THIS is how it's supposed to work!" moments. I spent a good 20 minutes picking that beer apart as it warmed. Then I went back to get more.

Firestone Walker Parabola- I loved this beer so much that I left the 2008 Stone 12th Anniversary Party early so that I could get back to Los Angeles for the opening of the Blue Palms Brewhouse because I knew they would have it on tap. Complex, immense, nuanced, balanced, perfectly textured, thoroughly satisfying. I have had barrel-aged imperial stouts which were Parabola's equal, but as yet none have bettered it.

Pizza Port Frank Double IPA- Man, I can still remember my first pint of this. The most amazing Amarillo hop nose I've ever found. Full-bodied and dry, with a terrific hop bite. Ridiculously drinkable.
