It doesn't count for people who are being greedy and trying to buy 2 cases from a store that only gets 4. And the only reason he didn't grab all 4 was because there wasn't a hand truck present. I show no love for people who are following trucks around to buy everything the day of a release. That stuff pisses me off and I will typically tell those costumers who I only see during those times to piss off. There are some crazy people out there and they don't have a sharing mentality.

I don't think employees should be able to purchase the more limited stuff. Share one bottle amongst all the employees so everybody can taste it, but otherwise consumers spending money are what keeps your store afloat and stores should be more respectful of that. Best Buy or Walmart employees don't get to the purchase the hot deals in the weekly circular for precisely this reason. There are plenty of other ways to provide employee perks without touching the most limited stuff.

I don't take them out to lunch but I do on occasion bring in beers that I acquire that can't be had in my state as a thank you as we'll as letting them broaden there beer experience. I will be getting Surly soon and I will bring a few to my fav local shop so they can try out that brewery. That is just part of being a BA.

Yeah I have worked retail in my youth and I really don't think the store employees are the ones wiping out allocations unless suddenly that job pays a whole hell of a lot more than it use to. I could barely afford a budweiser hobby on that income so this doesn't really upset me too much. I think it is much more the people who go and grab their whole damn family and friends to each grab a six pack that makes it so tough for many of us to find anything remotely limited on the shelves within days of release.

This topic used to get deep under my skin because I would waste my valuable time and gas driving all over for the chance to try something new and strike out more often than not, but basically there is still plenty of damn good beer for me to drink on the shelves everyday so until Vitus or La Fin Du Mond become a hard to get beer I can't cry. This is suppose to be a hobby not work so if the day comes that this becomes a chore I'll move on to something new and satisfying. Hell finally broke down over X-Mas and got myself a brew kit so now instead of being sore about missing out I'll just try to brew my own.

You have to let employees buy it first so they can taste it, and in turn, brag about how awesome it is to customers that can't have any.

Why? What if the employee came in on their day off and bought the allocated bottle/ 4-pack / 6-pack? Is that allowed? Share a bottle? If a store had 10 bottles and 20 customers want it should the store owner say, "you can buy this bottle, but only if you share it so everyone has a fair chance at trying it "

Basically point is, an employee has every right to be a customer.

I've been trying to find Cantillon in Northern CA for years. I might hear about it, but I live several hours from the Bay Area and can't leave on a whim when word it out that it's on the shelves. I know very little lands anywhere these days...but the stories about it never even gets on the shelves because the employees bought them...makes me sad. All said and done it's easier to fly to Brussels buy it there at reasonable prices tour the brewery and check it my luggage, and bring a shipper box and check it as well. (of course it will be more expensive overall but not too much and you actually get to acquire Cantillon..)
