Well, I have tried to look briefly through all post but I came up this original thought. This sounds like a beer troll! It sort of sounds like a bunch of people targeted a certain beer that us geeks love and ran with it. Hey, remember there has been cases of such disdain for us beer geeks that this is no surprise.

All of this did happen in a bar, on a Saturday night. It was at a BAR, not the library. :astonished: No problem.

It is the symbol used in the Wheel of Time series too! But I made that reference to what you made of the other side which makes sense. Sure I love going out and having a beer or two and when I know it is my limit, I stop.

Sometimes both sides of an argument are not equally valid.

So what your are saying is that a group of friends decided to drink copious amounts of 10% abv DIPA that I'm guessing wasn't cheap just to spite craft beer fans?

Meh. It's just a beer. You can find equal or better beer virtually anywhere these days.

Oh yes! You should see some of the sick things kids are doing in Philadelphia, and if you look at the bad trader list, there was one kid who even call beer geeks fags, so hey nothing is out of the question....

Please don't call 911 if you "think" someone is drunk. If you see them all over the road, fair enough, but speculation someone is "drunk" is not an "emergency".

Impersonating an officer is generally a more severe criminal infraction than DUI. It would suck if you pulled that routine on an actual off duty officer. And its quite likely one of them could have been, as I party with lots of law enforcement, and let me tell you, those are some of the loudest, rowdiest and most obnoxious people I know.

If you want to control the company you keep while drinking, don't drink in public. Craft bars are not houses of worship. Consumers need not concern themselves with how limited a beer is. Nevertheless, sorry they ruined your time

I have to say I see both sides on this one. Sometimes you want to go to a bar and have a more relaxed atmosphere and sometimes you want to go and get a little rowdy. I understand being a little peeved if you pick a bar known for its chill atmosphere and a bunch of guys show up and turn it into a rave, but I also think when you go out to a bar on a Saturday night that's ultimately the risk you run. If you don't like it stand up and take your business to another bar without the rowdy folks. If there isn't another decent option, then that's unfortunate, but you can hardly blame the other guys for coming to this particular bar if there isn't any other choice.

I'm hopeful that as craft beer goes mainstream and there are more bars with awesome tap lists there will start to be more differentiation by atmosphere / clientele. It's already starting to happen in a lot of places. I think craft beer going more mainstream will actually really help with this problem.

Meh. You pick your battles by going out for beer in public on a weekend. Also, it's a limited release of an extremely popular beer and that was probably one of the few kegs left in town that someone zero'd in on who was probably a regular and wanted their buddies to experience it. No reason to get philosophical about it and blame craft brewing getting popular. It is. But, this kind of shitshow happens at innumerable breweries with limited releases that are extremely popular, and let's not forget to mention the numerous times and events where it's the "experts" themselves going for broke and doing a bang up job of it.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect that.

However, if hopslam is really rare (which apparently isn't the case in your town), then there is some merit to limiting its purchase amounts.

The bar may value its bottom line over its serving beer to their regulars or to tourists. That's also fine. It may or may not win you more loyalty and thus revenue in the future. That's a decision bar management needs to make.

But if RR allowed the first however many customers to buy all of the PtY without regard for the rest, they would surely suffer a shitstorm.

This situation is obviously not the same as RR's PtY, but there are some similar considerations to make when serving highly sought out, but relatively rare seasonal or one-time offerings.

    Cheers.

Thank you for the warning. I will now be more vigilant when it comes to watching out for roaming hoards of people who want to drink all of my precious craft beer while calling me a fag for liking the same liquid they are so mercilessly guzzling.
