Are you suggesting that he underrated CBS? That if it was truly mind-blowing, it would then ultimately deserve a straight 5...no questions asked?

I think that it's a bit near-sighted to off-handedly rate anything a 5 . It's a smart and considerate move to leave a margin between what you would currently define as "mind-blowing" and beers which you have not yet had.

On that note, I see that you rated KBS a perfect 5. Imagine that, down the road, you suddenly discovered a beer that might compare to KBS stylistically, but that you would ultimately consider more mind-blowing.....(for the sake of argument, let's call this beer CBS).....where do you go from your perfect 5 for KBS?

My mind has been blown many times over the years by great beers. So far this year it's been blown by, Firestone 16 - Anniversary Ale, Ska Pocket Protecter porter, and Lagunitas Sucks.

Just pulling the data straight from Untappd. This is everything I rated as 5 stars. Unfortunately it only includes whatever I've had since late 2010, but it should be a pretty good reflection of what I saw as "mind-blowing":

    Piece Dark-N-Curvy
New Belgium Vrienden Ale (Lips of Faith)
Great Divide Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti
    Schlafly Coffee Stout
Evil Twin Yin & Yang Black & Tan
    DFH 90 Minute IPA
    Black Ball
    Southern Tier Creme Brulee
    Darkness (2011)
    Perennial Abraxas
    Hopslam Ale
    Milk Stout Nitro
    Revolution Hugene
Goose Island Gavin And John's Old Town Yard Lager
    Bourbon County Brand Stout
    Urban Chestnut Zwickel
Half Acre Double Daisy Cutter Pale Ale
    New Belgium Shift
    Bourbon Barrel Warmer
    FFF Hell's Black Intelligencer
    Cuvee Des Jacobins Rouge
    Brooklyn Gold Standard Export
    Old Chub
    Evil Twin Freudian Slip
    The Deuce
    Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break
    Goose Island Madame Rose (2012)
    Perennial Peace Offering
    Half Acre Space IPA
    Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout
    Against The Grain Gnag Reflex
    Pipeworks Citra Ninja
