Didn't do much for me, but then again I've enjoyed Pliny, Enjoy by, Sculpin, Sucks, Hopslam, and Nugget Nectar in the last few weeks. this has been a great month or so for hop forward beers. Jai-alai was good, my can was 3 weeks old but couldn't compare to the onslaught of hops I've put my palate through recently.

I prefer some of the above mentioned beers over Jai Alai as well but Jai Alai is quite a bit different than the beers you mentioned. It has it's place, a bit grassier hops, and a little more malt characteristic than the others as well.

agreed, not the best comparison, I was just mentioning the fact that I think I'm "hopped out" as I could tell that Jai Alai was a good beer in its own right, but I wasn't blown away like many people were.

The fruit stuff. Raspberry Tart/Serendipity. The other stuff is good, too, but their fruit beers are phenomenal.

I like it, but start a thread like..... no. I recently got some in a trade, while a nice beer it is not the tropical fruit bomb I was hoping for after reading the description and review after review, I do not want to take away from the beer, which was a good solid IPA but it is just not OMG beer to me.

Madison (where I live) is full of these fruit beers. If I do head down to Chicago this month, I'll be sure to BM you. These days I'm looking for BCBS and variants though so if these are available near you...

I just moved about a week ago. I'm still settling in to the new place. It might take me a week or two until I can get a trading operation up and running, but I'm definitely interested.

Sounds great. The current Jai Alai's a getting a bit old at 12/15... so new one's should be out in a few weeks. Take me off your privacy block and I'll get back to you as soon as I find new ones.

Oh... I'm in NY, not Chicago. Someone from here is heading up that way soon.

Really, it's all my own fault for not going to school in Milwaukee.

I have had several of the Humidor IPA Bombers and it is a spectacular brew. The regular Jai Alai was not one of my favs but since they switched to cans it seems more citrus forward? Love to trade some!

Part of the usefulness of this site is finding a way to know whose recommendations are good,i.e. most like ones own taste preferences, and whose to completely disregard. Thanks for making it easy to decide which to do with yours.

Is it possible for a beer to 'ruin' you for others in it's class that you've previously enjoyed? I ask genuinely. I am by no means trying to embellish or speak in hyperbole about Jai Alai, but I'm fairly certain it's ruined me for others in it's class that I previously loved.

3 nights this week I drank only Jai Alai. Last night I took a break from that, instead deciding to revisit and enjoy old standby's that I considered some of my favorites: Two Hearted, Ranger, and Hop Ottin. What I quickly discovered was that all 3 of them seemed inferior to the Jai Alai. Of the 3, the Two Hearted came closest to exhibiting the characteristics that I enjoy most about the JA. Then, a buddy of mine visiting last night gave me a Flying Dog 'Doggie Style' to try, which honestly tasted like bland and uninspired garbage next to everything else mentioned in this post.

Point being, I fear JA has set a new standard and everything else henceforth will be held against it. Again, not to speak in hyperbole, but IMO having a Jai Alai isn't just 'drinking a beer', it's a full on experience. It's such an amazing brew and so well crafted in every aspect.

If you can, get your hands on the white oak aged variation of the jai alai. It's very, very tasty. Blew me out of the water!

I had all but completely given up on Cigar City due to infection issues, by decided to give a 6 pack of Jai Alai a try once I saw it in cans. Blown away. Back on the CC hype train, at least as far as Jai Alai goes.
