So you get your GF a new cool Duvel beer glass and then drink the first beer out of it? So who's more excited about it?

Let down by this one. The aroma was killer, but the taste is very watery. Doesn't stack up to the other wild ales Cisco makes, but worth an honest try.

Don't have a camera, Nor do I care to take a picture with my phone. But I'm drinking a Scotty Karate Scotch Ale from Dark Horse. Get one now if you love the style. Or don't get one now, since they tend to sit around for awhile. Oh well, the older the better!

That's what people keep telling me.

How did you judge it? By what standards? As an abomination unto God, I think its doing pretty good.

Seriously though, it's a bacon maple smoked ale. Bacon. In beer. Smoked, fried pig flesh added to beer. (Oysters were the slippery slope.) It's not the first thing that comes to mind of most people, and the fact that it has gone from idea to fully-realized product is an indicator of the affect of defunding state mental hospitals during the Reagan years.

So I put aside preconceptions about what a beer is supposed to taste like and judge it by what it is, a bacon maple smoked ale. The bacon adds a salty bite to a bright, crisp smoke and the maple syrup provides a sweet, lingering aftertaste, particularly when it warms up. It makes me eager for another taste. Salt, fat, and sugar are a winning combination, no matter what the format.

On a side note, when I was a little kid I used to eat bacon and peanut butter for breakfast. That it did not occur to me to add marshmallows to the mix is the reason I am still here today.

I'm currently sipping on a Victory Golden Monkey.
