I have had three bottles and have really enjoyed them. Granted, I have never had the beer before, but I very much enjoy NN. I'm having five tonight, we'll I should get a better taste. For $2 a bottle, I really cant complain.

Very disappointed with this beer. Scores a 98? You've got to be kidding!

I don't think its much different from years past, its just that so many good hoppy beers have come out in the last couple years so now NN no longer seems special. Still happy to have it in my fridge though.

Curtis Liquors in Weymouth had 10 cases too, in the back hall next to door to walk-in cooler. Picked up 2 six packs, dated 1/17. Cracked one so far and it tasted great to me. Whether it tasted different from last year, that I cannot say.

while I did not find 1/29 to be overly malty as others have (and zero citrus? come on), it is an imperial amber and, as such, there should be some malt present

I agree with almost zero citrus. Pretty earthy, herbal and yeasty to me. Really stunned by the super positive response. Must be the power of suggestion. I say Zoe is a far better representation of an Imperial Amber with a more pleasant hop flavor.

But to find Zoe in Eastern Mass, one has to be almost as lucky as one would be to find a British monarch under a parking lot. And when you do find the Zoe, it may be nearly as old as that monarch. Add to that the fact that Zoe, as great as it is fresh, is about twice the price per ounce as NN.

I'll take the fresh NN when it is in season, thanks. And BTW, I think the NN is pretty great this year, as always.

Really. I see Zoe everywhere. No doubt it is pricey, though.

I love the Red Sky at Night over at Blue Lobster in Hampton, NH - its a big Imperial Red/Amber - at 8% ABV and tastes great. We did a blind taste with fresh Nugget (bottle dates 1/17) and the Red Sky and it was a 50/50 toss up - couple guys went Nectar and a couple guys went Red Sky - they only do growler pours and there is a great pizza place next door - check their website but if you craving the Imperial Red - it may be worth a trip.

yeah i often wonder how much that factor plays into it. not just with NN but in general. with all the tasty hop explosions hitting the shelves these days, are hop-forward beers traditionally put up on the world-class mantle becoming somewhat diminished by comparison? where certain beers really stood out in years past, is the continued craft boom and influx of many new beers making them more, i dunno, middling? (maybe a little like how barrel-aged stouts are ruining (for lack of a better word) regular stouts for some.)
