Do you jump on a good deal even if the beer isn't that great ?

For example, I saw a 12 pack of the Saranac winter mix pack for 9.99. I had this like 3-4 months ago and I paid 14 or 15 dollars for it. Not a lot of good beers in it but for 9.99 I couldnt pass it up. There's at least 2 beers in it that arent too bad.

Almost never. I drink 1 beer per weeknight except Mon. and Thurs. are beer free nights and usually 2 on Sat. and Sun. So that's only 7 beers per week except on vacation. I have no desire to drink any beers I don't either consider to be great or that I haven't tried but I think have the potential to be great. So to me that wouldn't be a good deal. Just me - not right or wrong.

Depends on the situation (classic answer). If I am going to be having a party/gathering at my house with folks that drink craft but aren't that serious about it, then I'd buy that 12 pack of Saranac. Most likely the crowd coming over will like what's in the mix pack and drink it all. But for my own personal consumption? No. I won't buy something just because it's a good deal if I don't like the beer itself. For example, I saw Frangelic Mountain Brown for what I thought was cheap (can't remember the price but it was a few bucks less than what I had noticed it as previously). I passed it up because I didn't like that beer much.

It was by no means a no brainer for me. I thought about it for a while but decided to go with it in the end. I did like the Red IPA and the Belgian Pale and in the end that was probably the deciding factor.

I'm not sure how can you get a good deal on something you don't like, want, or need. You're just spending money to spend money.

True, I went from buying half a dozen six packs of mediocre beer in a month to buying half a dozen bottles of fantastic beer. Never looked back...

To answer your thread title question - it depends. That said, I've seen (and bought) Saranac 12 packs in NH for $10 many, many times.

No, there's too much beer in my cellar right now to be stocking up on stuff I don't love, no matter how cheap.

No because if the beer's no good, it's not a "good deal."

For myself - no. I buy what I know I like, or what I am interested in trying. I find buying those mixed cases I might really enjoy one or two, the rest just sit until they are in the way and I pour 'em (thinking of the recently unearthed three year old Sam Adams Winter Lagers).

For company, maybe I would think about it, but if they aren't open to trying craft brews I can give them halfway decent (ok, actually pretty good) Narragansett products without having to seek out/stumble upon a deal or be a temporary BMC sellout. <Substitute a scant handful of others for 'gansett>

So - basically echoes what Providence already said...too slow on the typing

Not usually, but at one store near me they have 24 pack blind mix packs for 20$ (plain brown box that you cant look inside, usually 8-10 different beers) that i will buy now and again, i usually will like a majority of them but sometimes you get duds and i pawn them off on friends.

Went to DC to see Coheed and Cambria about a week ago. We got there early and decided to get some food, stepped into a local bar that advertised a happy hour, only to find that their regular happy hour beer (Yuengling) had been replaced with Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. The cost? 1 dollar per pint! Best deal on beer I've ever gotten despite Loose Cannon not being anything special in my opinion.

Usually if I haven't had the beer I will buy it, but if I've had it before and it didn't wow me then I pass it up. I bought a case of Alaskan Stout for ~$16 and recently bought some Ska Euphoria for $0.99 each and an Abita Jockamo for the same price because I haven't tried either.

The bock, chocolate lager, porter and BPA make that a smash deal. I would bite. The big moose and red IPA are meh.

No, because more often than not, the "good deal" is on beer past its best by date, several months past its bottled on date or some crap that nobody wants to buy at full price.

I bought a few singles of hoptimum for a buck a pop once. Still could hardly drink them.

I occasionally host tastings and if a half-decent pack of beer is really cheep I'll grab it for people to drink after the official tasting is over
