This entire thread was very intriguing to read. I actually completed a trade with him a few months back with him shipping first and had no issues. Shortly after our completed trade, some one bm'd me for a reference for him. I had no choice but to report back that the trade went off with zero problem (except that he shipped vua USPS). If you were the one who bm' d m, then I apologize. I won't be trading with him again.

You did nothing wrong. Your trade went off well, and you said so. You had no idea the guy would turn into a complete maniac

Heck, he might've completed a good trade or two just to fool people.

CJS suspects he got a rare imperial stout that was recapped with something shitty?

CBS has known bottle variation; it's not recapped crap. This guy is an absolute jerk.

FOUNDERS has known bottle variation. The consistently knock it out of the park with their brews, but bottle variation has always been an issue for them.

Doesn't matter what that guy says at this point, he could claim it was recapped, he could claim it was stored horribly and tastes terrible, or he could say it was stolen from his porch.... he's just trying to give an excuse to not be what he is, a bad BA.

Not to say this was done but the very first trade I made was for a raison d extra and the bottle came with just a homebrewers gold cap and not the normal flourscent yellow one. The guy that sent it swore he bought the bottle that way and until I outed him did he finally send me a shitty bottle of hoppin frog to "make up" for it. While it is possible people do recap and refill (not sayin you did) I would still have sent the beer as a fuck you I am bigger than stooping down to that level and can still look at myself in the mirror.

Why the hell would somebody refill a Raison D'Extra? For one, you can't exactly easily find another 18% Belgian ale to refill it with to trick somebody like you could with a bourbon barrel stout. For two, they were still lingering on shelves as recently as a year ago, despite not being made for a few years at that point. Not exactly a super rare whale that would justify refilling a bottle...

I have no idea about your circumstance, but what year was the bottle? DFH didn't always use those fluorescent caps. I think they cutover in roughly 2006...

I believe it was an 08 (first trade was early 2011) i had google imaged it and could find nothing back then other than the yellow cap or maybe a cork n caged bottle. I forgot to mention the label had a big "X" drawn through it with a black sharpie - another thing that made me feel something was amiss right away.

To put a bow on this thread, CJS sent back my original box with the Dark Lord and all three extras (Lawson's anniversary, Arcadia Barrel Aged Impy Stout, and New Glarus Barleywine). All appear to be normal and no sign of opening the bottles and refilling them.

For much cheaper, he could have just sent me a Hunahpu, but that's neither here nor there at this juncture.

Actually that's a totally acceptable thing to do. Given the situation here, it's certainly not fair to you, but you can't stop it. He did trade with you, it went bad, and he wouldn't trade with you again - it's his opinion (however stupid it may be) and his profile. cavedave is a very reputable trader, and I'm pretty sure being on his "would not trade with again" list hasn't hurt him in the least, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

If I were you I would just screenshot this thread in case it gets deleted one day, and then if anybody ever asks about it send it to them.

The better question is how many people he traded with in the past would now actually want to be on his "would not trade again with" list based on this thread?

I know if I had traded with him before, I'd ask him to add me to his list.

cavedave being on a "would not trade again" list is basically like saying "i am a shitty trader" anyway.
