So how are traders shipping booze if not through UPS, Fedex, or USPS? Are they just hoping no bottles clank together and everything will be just fine?

If bottles can clank together you didn't pack well.

Touche! But I am serious about the first question. Do people just pull and pray, as it were?

The person received a box with nothing but packing material in it. Report that to UPS - no need to tell them the missing item was beer, just pick something of the same size and weight and of equal value (or, you know, given your trouble...a bit higher:wink: ).

Or go the "I don't know, it's was a gift" route.

If that's the case and they busted the shipment they return to sender.

I also pack every box now so you can't hear any sloshing, it cuts down on the xtras because the packing takes up space, but I shake the hell out of every box until you can't hear a damn thing.

I sent 6 BCBS plus extras to Minn only to get a non deliverable box, box discarded on the tracking log. I packed the hell out of that, I think they heard the slosh and took the beer, and wrote it off as busted up. I can't prove it of course just a suspicion, after that no slosh is allowed at all, and I can't shake it any more than the idiots who chuck the boxes across the room.

Basically yes! However, usually they're doing a bit more than hoping bottles don't clang together, and actually taking precautions to make sure they don't!
Äfter that there is a lot of hoping involved. Shipping beer without license is illegal. There will be losses, eventually.

Soooo....here's a first for me. I shipped a box recently via FedEx Ground. The box was reported damaged and returned with applicable inspection stickers and why it was returned. Upon opening the box, which had a small hole along one of its seams, all the contents were intact except on of the 10 bottles shipped was missing. I reshipped the package in a new box and it got to its destination safely. This was last week....
Today, I received a letter from the legal department at FedEx which was a warning regarding the shipment of alcohol...
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? If so, what, if anything, happened after receiving that letter?

I got the same letter a few weeks ago. It said that I needed to contact my FedEx representative to rectify the situation. It also gave me the option to apply for a liquor shipping licence. I ignored it and have sent 5+ boxes since then with no issues.

Phew thank God I trust the driver I get (long story short, a gun I bought had to go back to factory and came back poking out of the box, had to inspect it in front of him, well hes a gun fan too so we are friends now) .... I just hope my shipment to CA get's there A-okay tomorrow. 2nd time trading last one wasn't an issue.

I shipped to Chicago area and that's my box was "damaged" and inspected. The kicker is that it was returned to me with all bottles except for one. All were intact, none broken....weird

If you packed the hell out of it, you wouldn't be able to hear sloshing sounds to begin with.

I wonder if a former (hopefully not current) BA now presides in the shipping hub and knows what to look for, to identify boxes of collectible bottles of olive oil.
