Beer Karma: 2,329
My interest in beer started in 1996, the first time I smelled Weinhard's perfuming downtown Portland. Over time, many local brews intensified and diversified my love (Deschutes, Bridgeport, Rogue, Hair of the Dog, etc.), as did a few choice Belgian imports.
In 2003, I moved to Los Angeles, and began sampling everything I could find. Working in Santa Monica, I was lucky to patronize Father's Office, The Daily Pint, and The Library Alehouse, all establishments that have been treating beer with respect long before I was old enough to have my first sip.
Inspired in part by Michael Jackson's (of Beer Hunter fame) writing, I made a pilgrimage to Belgium in 2006. As an avid cyclist, this was rather like the Hajj for my hobbies.
By 2008 enthusiasm for beer was taking off locally - I became a regular at one of the first new wave of "brewhouses;" I started trading frequently; I went to beer releases (Black Tuesday in 2009; Pliny the Younger in 2010), and met many good people in and around the industry.
In 2012 I started homebrewing, which added another dimension to my appreciation of this timeless beverage.
Largely been away from the "scene" since 2017 - but still pop on here once in a while to read or review.
