It's the same thing with Middle Ages...if it comes off as even mildly sexist, I avoid it. Don't want to have to explain Wailing Wench, Pimp, or Muffin Top to my girlfriend.

Chocolate Sombrero is my personal favorite. Hoppy Feet 1.5 and Blaecorn Unidragon are close though. I also liked Genghis Pecan. I love Clown Shoes' homebrewer-like labels and beer ideas.

I think these are all one-offs (so far):
Angry Beast (bought 3, traded 3)
Flight of the Pimp (bought 3, traded 3)
Luchador en Fuego (bought 1, just went out as an extra)
Porcine Unidragon (bought 1, still have it)

Porcine Unidragon might be have been the new beer for me in 2012. Eagle Claw Fist is probably my favorite year rounder from them.

I buy clown shoes pretty often as theyre fairly ubiquitous in my area. i've thought they were all decently mediocre at best. sometimes they're worth the price and often they aren't. Luchador en fuego was a good $10 bomber in my opinion, but not worth the $14 I see it around for.

    From your list I'd go:

Vampire Slayer (my favorite Clown beer)
    Blaecorn Unidragon
Supa Hero (need to try one of their IPAs)
Hoppy Feet or Hoppy Feet 1.5
    Muffin Top

Their beers are solid, some better than others.

It's the first and only Clown Shoes I've had so far... But man, I've had quite a few Porcines, despite the price tag. Amazing beer, and kept the bottle because the label was so goddamn funny.

But having had the barrel-aged version first, is it worth it to go to the standard blaecorn version?

Clown Shoes beers collect dust on the shelves of every liquor store in the area. It's good stuff, but maybe they need to market their beer better or something.

I haven't had a lot of Clown Shoes. But their Chocolate Sombrero is excellent! Probably my favorite of the ones I've tried. And like everyone has pointed out, the Vampire Slayer is great. Also, I really liked the Brown Angel. I think this one is a bit under rated. But stop avoiding them and try some out ... you're sure to find one or two that you really enjoy.

Tramp Stamp and Muffin Top are two of my girlfriend's favorite beers. Go figure.

Hey this is Matt from Clown Shoes. I wanted to address your post here because while you have some correct info, there is a lot more behind Clown Shoes than just slapping a label on a beer. While we are business guys in some ways, we are also homebrewers, passionate beer drinkers, beer educators and dedicated to making good beer. The owner of Clown Shoes, Gregg, started Clown Shoes out of his family liquor store, which is well known in Boston for it's beer selection and service, after having spent years developing his passion and knowledge of craft beer. Personally, I have never been very skilled at brewing, but I found that my passion was teaching people about beer, so I got my Cicerone Certification while working as a the manager of Gregg's beer store and now as part of my job I get to travel around the country doing beer dinners, tastings and workshops to help educate anyone who will listen about craft beer, not just Clown Shoes. To develop our beer recipes, we work very closely with the head brewer at Mercury, Dan, from concept to testing to final production, we make sure that our beer is of excellent quality before we even think about the silly name or funny label. Dan has been a professional brewer for well over a decade and we have not and will never make any claims that he isn't the head brewer of Clown Shoes. Our two other team members are both avid homebrewers, who, along with another homebrewer who works at Mercury, brew test batches of all the iterations of our new recipes until we are all satisfied that it will be a quality, flavorful beer. So while we all aren't actually professional brewers, we work very hard to embody the craft beer ethos you talk about and and to actually make a contribution to the pantheon of craft beers. If you or anyone else who reads this wants to know more about us, what we do or how we do it, we are always reachable via our website or facebook page, and I make sure to respond to everyone who reaches out to us. Cheers!

I've definitely been on the receiving end of some odd looks when I've brought Wailing Wench to a party. But screw 'em... I love that beer.

Appreciate the direct response, Matt. It's one of the special things about BA. I always prefer to be informed! No disrespect intended. I'll raise my next glass to you and the team there!

A manager in an area store made a comment to me that I think has some truth in it. They have too many SKUs out at one time....

Very doubtful. Avoiding one or two beers, and only in front of her, not when I'm drinking with friends, is completely worth it if it means she's comfortable. There are a lot of beers and a lot of good women, but it's certainly easier to find good beer.
