Every single day someone starts a new thread with the word "So." It's hilarious. I can't understand why folks do it.

Back to the OP: Sours. I have tried a number of them and while I can appreciate the craft and skill involved and the complexity of flavors, it's just not something I enjoy drinking.

Is it very strange that Im really only in to Stouts and Porters? I have only been into drinking craft beers for less than a year, and havent really drank a ton o beer yet, but most good stouts and porters seem to go down the smoothest.

I can't stand beers with heavy smoke flavor. It tastes like I spiked beer with liquid smoke. No good. I 'm okay if it's not overwhelming (like Stone Smoked Porter), but my only drain pours were heavily smokey.

Oh yeah, that's another one for me. Habanero hot sauce? All day, habanero Sculpin? WHY?

Yea I agree with you, I've had such little luck with stouts and have pretty much given up on them. I did love kbs and bcbs tho, but other than those 2 I just can't get into them

Rye beers. Founders Red Rye PA has been the only one that was alright, but I wouldn't buy a 6 pack of it. I didn't care for Ruthless Rye, Rye of the Tiger, nor any of the others I've tried.

so...I never noticed that before, but I'll keep an eye out for it from now on.

As to the thread- I see a lot of my favorites being mentioned already; if I ever host a BA get together you are all going to have to bring your own stuff . More for me, as they say...

I like stouts well enough. But maybe it's just because the weather is getting warmer (kinda...it's trying to), but I'm definitely leaning towards hops and lighter beers and saving the stouts, porters, etc for the Fall and Winter. I kind of have to be in the mood for it, but I do like a nice viscous roasty stout. I'm more likely to get enthusiastic about a stout, but on any given day, I'm more likely to have a porter than a stout.

Sours, I just can't seem to get behind. I've tried several, from mild to extreme. I've been to Crooked Stave twice. Just really don't like the flavor profiles in sour beers. I can appreciate the craft, just not for me.

I had a traumatizing experience with Chimay Blue, recently. Reeeeaaaally didn't like it. Considering I like Belgians in general, and I've liked other Belgian strong ales, quads, etc, I really thought I would like Chimay. Nope! So ever since, I'm still having flashbacks to Chimay when I smell/taste Belgian yeast. I just don't like them as much anymore.

ANY sour style of beer. I. Just. Cant. Do. It.

Also lagers, they lack flavor IMO.

Oh and and spicy beers :grimacing:

I too have had a great deal of trouble getting into IPA, and not for a lack of trying over the years. I guess I just don't like beers with a very hop forward flavor. About the strongest hoppy beer I can drink is probably DFH's 90 Minute, but only in small amounts.

And Like Miketd (see above) I also can’t stand Heffeweizens or Witbiers, due to that prevalent bubblegum/banana flavor.

Oh, and sours. I don’t like them at all.

Finally, Rauchbiers. I can’t stand those smoke bombs either.

But I love my English barleywines, stouts, porters, Belgian strong dark ales and malt bombs!

There is not one style of beer that I dislike. I do like some styles more than others though and I happen to love stouts

I hear you on the sours. Not my cup of tea. But don't give up on lagers! They are packed with flavor. Certainly some styles of lager are indeed a bit more subtle, but others pack a good wallop. Surely you've had Celebrator Doppelbock before, would you say that one lacks flavor?

    Cheers!

sours and witbiers... one is too sour and the other too bitter. Mind you, I love DIPAs, so I guess the bitterness of witbiers is more because it's a bitter beer that has a lighter flavor profie... so the bitter seems unbalanced to my palate. and I'm a kraut and grew-up with them!

It's fine you don't like stouts... it's my fav variety of beer, but everyone has their own preferences... It is often very heavy and boozy. just drink what you like!

While I love many German styles (all weissbiers, pils, rauchbiers, etc, etc) and I'll likely hear it from the fanboys, Kolsch is a style I just can't get behind. It's like a thin pils trying on a little "bitter suit" in front of the mirror when no one's looking.

I don't hate the style per se, but witbiers don't do much for me. If I'm in the mood for a wheat beer, I'd much rather have a hefe, dunkel or krystal.

I completely agree with you; I have yet to really enjoy a barleywine.

I think it's perfectly fine for beer advocates to have a few styles that they don't enjoy.

Lagers make my belly feel funny, & it burns when I pee (waits for jokes). I'm also not a fan of peppers or coriander in beer or rauchbiers.
