    Couldn't wait any longer, cracked open a Westvleteren 12 from my Europe trip. Hype or no hype, this rivals Rochefort 10 as the best beer I've ever laid lips on.

    I've heard that some of these beers are more like quads initially but more 'stouty' once they age. I had a Pannepeut from 2005 (I think, maybe it was 2007) and it was magnificent, tasted better than any non-aged quad I've had and not anything like a stout. I also have had Pannepot from less than a year ago along with a French quad, XI.I (also less than a year old), that was described to be as being 'quad-like' initially and aging into being more stout like and they were both very good, albeit a little heavier and more stout-like than normal quads, - this coming from a guy who does not like stouts that much. I have a 2007 Pannepot in my cellar that I'm waiting to try, hoping it doesn't taste more like a stout than a quad...

    I think I have to agree with Beejay (Pipeworks' brewer) this is probably their best IIPA. Something about simcoe hops and their duel ability to be both bittering and aroma that work so well with this beer. Super fruity and piney mix in the aroma with a grassy/piney bitterness on the pallet.

    Maybe I'll try to find some fresh regular pannepot because i really had high expectations. I also think pannepeut will be more my thing. The way you describe it, im pretty sure of it :slight_smile: I have to say the pannepot is tasting better now when it 's getting warmed up.
