Aren't they just bringing up the same critique about high ABV beers dominating the Top Beer lists that's made into a thread once a week or so? Seems like a valid point to me.

The only Cantillon I drink gets shipped from a Belgian retailer.

Sure, it's a valid point IF you subscribe to the minority. Otherwise, it's a diss from people who distribute fancy beer.
I can't say anything they said inspires me to purchase the beer they distribute. In fact, it makes me think twice before doing so.

I think those guys are a lot more in touch with craft beer than they may be given credit for here. It goes back to the same old thing though...ratings are subjective and opinions are like assholes. That show sure did give Dark Lord a kick to the nads, eh? Glad to hear them mention Chase from Prairie Artisan Ales and how he set people straight on pricing. He is a stand up kind of guy working his ass off and keeping it real.

They do make some good points, though I think those points would be more effective if they could make them without coming off as insufferable douchebags.

Basically, what I gathered from the self absorbed, holier than thou, uber wealthy beer bro attitude they displayed on the show is the herd who consumes craft beer and rates those beers highly are clearly wrong and should be ridiculed.

That's cool. I'll buy beer from people who don't ridicule their customers and potential customers. :stuck_out_tongue:

didn't listen to it, but anyone who takes user reviews to be subject to stringent "expert" guidelines is a moron.

Conversely, anyone who doesn't trust their own palate and defers to the so called experts is a fool.

well, to a degree. trust your palate for preference, but i wouldn't like to go back in time and tell my younger self, "you're right, IPAs are too bitter!"

This is a local radio show to me (I think it's WHMP and many of their weekly podcasts can be found online). I don't generally listen to it, although I downloaded and flipped through this one. Many of the points they make are often made on this site's forums as well. If you're making your living in the beer business (which I don't) I think you have to acknowledge that questions of quality aside higher ABV beers rate higher on these sites than low ones do. It's the realities of the marketplace (acknowledged around 25:00), and unlike me and probably you without that marketplace these guys don't eat dinner. Of course they're going to pay attention to it.

What valid points do they make beyond stating the obvious information that can be gathered by looking at two lists?

One thing I learnt from the show is Mikeller is pronounced MIK-uh-lur. I always pronounced it Mik-KEL-er. Thanks for clearing that up, Shelton Bros!

They do seem to lean toward the lower ABV beers. I remember them talking up Thiriex extra at the Moan and Dove in Amherst Ma when they first started to import it. At 4.5% it's a dam good beer, great flavor and you can drink it all day long.

In my opinion the good thing about your palate is that it isn't static but changes due to experience/training.

Everyone likes to get a buzz.

Beer wouldn't be as popular otherwise.
