Not sure if these types of threads are frowned upon, i'm pretty new here (joined 2 months ago). But i'm proud to say I just reviewed my 100th beer the other day... (I think... maybe I should be worried?)

Had to make it a good one, picked up a Dogfish Head 120 Minute when I was back in Michigan for a few days, was thoroughly impressed. I have another cellaring to crack in another year, may pick up some more to try my first vertical. I guess to give this thread a purpose, has anyone done a vertical with the 120 minute? Or had any luck cellaring? I thought it tasted way less boozy then I was expecting, and i've heard it only gets better with age, as I would assume. Sucks to be living in Tennessee where they no longer distribute, one of my favorite (non-MI) breweries.

Beer review #100!!!!

Bottle into Duvel glass

Appearance: Semi cloudy orange/amber, surprisingly a 1 finger thick white head (aggressive pour), very intricate lacing throughout glass

Smell: Off the bat i'm getting warm alcohol esters, some apricot, vanilla, earthy hops, minor citrus and grapefruit notes. It's hard to differentiate the malt bill from the enormous amounts of booze that mask it.

Taste: You can taste the alcohol warmth, obviously being an 18%, but it gives way to other flavors such as a surprisngly bitter herbal hoppiness, I can make out some minor citrus and grapefruit notes, as well as some other spices that seem to be present... coriander, some clove, and maybe even a little anise. The finish is smooth, somewhat dry, but wow this is way more dinkable than I was expecting, tastes more like 12-13% beer than 18%.

Mouthfeel: Not that carbonated, very full thick warm body, has the feel of liquor almost

Overall: I was expecting a not very drinkable alcohol bomb, and what I got was quite different. For the high ABV, this was way more balanced and drinkable than I would have ever expected. You can actually pick out hops and the malt backbone and not just the alcohol. Dogfish Head took it to the extreme with this one, and it came out amazingly balanced. For the curious, this is an easy choice, just buy it. Sam loves to experiment with his brews and some are pretty out there, but they nailed this one on the spot. Worth the $10, will buy again on special occasions (everyday if it was cheaper). You feel pretty great after just one...

Im coming up on 500 soon. I always try to do a big beer for the milestones. 500 is going to be Sucaba for me.

As for 120, My first one wasnt too fresh and was very mildly disappointed. I have a 2 year old bottle im sitting on now.

 

Solid WC IPA

 

New (to me) IPA. Hopnotch.

 

Took a half day at work, went to McNellies at lunch; had a blackened chicken sandwich with a flight of OKC craft brews:
