You have just become my example to show my wife when she starts complaining about all of my "crap".

Mine couldn't complain. She collects magnets and has more old toys than a pre-school.

I started saving them a few months ago because a local bottle shop was giving a discount (10%-20% if I recall correctly) on your purchase if you brought in 50 caps. If they are not taking them anymore, they're going into the trash.

If you, or anyone else here, has a "Huge Amount" and are willing to ship them out, I could put together a pretty nice box of beer together in exchange for a lot of un-mangled caps....

I save them. I have a small storage box full at the moment.

Wow Jim. This is absolutely awesome. Care to share how exactly you've done this? I love the idea. The caps aren't permanently affixed under resin, they're moveable, and on display without using expensive magnets. How exactly have you done this? I was wondering why some of your caps had Velcro on the back of them.

I soak the labels off the bottles after I drink them and keep the six pack holders but most of the bottle caps are not twist off - how do you remove them without bending them with a bottle opener ?

I can give you more details if you'd like, but it basically starts with a painted 2' x 4', 3/4" thick piece of plywood, 465 flathead screws placed 1-1/2" apart in grid form, with a small square of rough-side up, self-adhesive velcro stuck to each screw. The fuzzy side of the velcro goes under the cap and BAM, you have easily moveable caps! It makes them easy to categorize (if you have a dash of OCD, this helps a lot!). I split mine into countries, then breweries, then type and age. This pic isn't updated, I probably have to add 1 more board's worth to put up...

How do you remove the ones that are not twist off ? Mine always get mangled from the bottle opener.

I pop them off with a lighter, or other straight edged thing. Pretty much can open a crown-cap with anything.... cell phone, keys, a piece of paper (just to prove to people it can be done) etc.

There are at least a few threads about this recently, but I say a Bic is the best! Small, cheap, sets stuff on fire...awesome!

Put a quarter on the top of the cap before you pry on it. And a closed-loop opener is more gentle on the cap's edges rather than the 'church key' type.

I've done it with oxygen. (Sometimes, it's all you have)

I use a Bottle Pal to open them, read about it on here a while back. It doesn't damage the caps at all..

I used to display my collection in a table we had bought at IKEA:

And unfortunately/fortunately ran out of room so I built myself a display board made with a sheet of galvanized steel:

I haven't counted lately, but I expect that I am well north of 1250 different caps. (this is a very old picture...)

I have 3 15" square black magnetic dry erase boards that I put my caps on (after gluing magnets to the back).

    1) Belgians
    2) Other Imports
    3) USA Craft

Each board holds about 200 caps, and all are nearly full.
