Finally finished my cellar shelving/organization project the other weekend. Think I might need another shelf already...

Gotta start somewhere. I'd be careful with that type of shelf though - it's definitely not meant to handle a lot of weight. That top shelf looks like it's bowing already.

I have that issue with my shelves for mine. The main shelf is on the floor and its already "pooling" in the middle. I think eventually I'll have to build my own if I dont find a suitable metal shelving.

Here is my setup: The lambics and such are on the bottom 3 rows of the "wine rack". The C & W crates are full as well.

LIke RichKrull said, I'd watch the bowing on those shelves. If it was me, I'd get some wood dowel or square stock, cut to the length between the shelves and secure them in place down the center. It'll help to support the weight of all that beer.

I've already split the beer up but I'm going to build my own shelves in the next few weeks.

Did you add in stable shelving or are the bottles on the wire shelving?

It's just on the wire shelving, which I admit is not ideal.

I'll probably add some thin plywood on top of each shelf at some point, however they seem to be staying up there no problem. Peace of mind I suppose

    i'm really curious about this.
i'm planning on converting a corner of my basement into a cellar. i was debating about shelving, climate control, etc.

has anyone built their own wall-fastened shelving units?

Elsewhere in this thread I talked about the non-wall-fastened shelves I made. They wouldn't be hard to secure to a wall, though my basement doesn't work great for that.

mine are on wire shelving with no issues at all. perhaps it just depends on how much space there is between each wire.
